Plc2 To Plc5 Upgrade?

can anyone tell me if the backplane of a plc5 rack is the same as plc2 more specifically can a plc5 processor be put into a plc2 rack

The short answer is "yes" - but there might be some compatibility issues with the power supply - and the chassis DIP switch settings might have to be changed, etc. If you can get to the Rockwell Automation Knowledgebase, entry "A16647 - PLC-2 To PLC-5 Conversions" might help. It depends how old the chassis is. The 1771 chassis that accompanied the introduction of the PLC2 are not compatible. The later series (after approx 1985) are OK The old series only have a white molex connector for the power supply whereas the newer ones have a custom D-connector at the left end of the chassis. Most likely you have a -P1 power supply on the chassis (assuming this is a mini-PLC2). This won't work with the PLC5 because you can't get the power plug into the Molex connector with the PLC5 in the chassis. You'll need a -P7 supply (and proper cable) which connects to the D-connector. Alternatively, if there's room you can use one of the slot power supplies. You'll still need the newer series chassis,
