Looking for infomation on how to connect a Allen Bradly Micrologix 1400 to a Micrologix 1200 to exchange data? I would like a simple point to point connection. Hardware to connect them? Example of Messaging instructions? A run down on how to do this work be great. Thanks Nic

The default mode for the serial ports on both controllers is DF1 Full Duplex, so there's not much more to do except plug one into the other and configure a MSG instruction. You can connect Channel 0 (the round Mini-DIN8 plug to the other Channel 0, or connect Channel 0 on the ML1200 to Channel 1 on the ML1400. There are some pre-made cables for both applications; I always look them up in the 1761-NET-AIC User Manual, because it has physically similar ports. The MSG instruction is well documented in the Online Help and in the User Manual. Start with a self-repeating timer and use the .DN bit to trigger a MSG instruction if that MSG instruction is not already Enabled. Start with a timer preset of 1 second, and adjust to run faster or slower to meet your needs. Make sure both the source and destination data table files exist, and are of appropriate sizes. With DF1 Full Duplex, you don't really even need to worry about the node numbers; just address the target controller as Node 1 and it will accept the message.
