ABB AC500 to SLC5/05

2 posts in this topic

Just wondering if anyone out there has ever had to interface Modbus RTU to DH485. I'm using an ABB PM591 CPU. Modbus RTU is the default comm protocol on the RS232 port. Customer has a DH485 network that we MUST hang our controller on. I picked up a DL3500 Communication Controller (http://www.equustek.com/DL3500/Specsheets/DL3500-DH485_Modbus_Master.pdf) which will be the bridge between modbus and DH485. I have a MicroLogix 1100 for testing this setup. I have never used RSLogix 500, and am unsure of how to setup the communication parameters for the 1100. I prefer to program it over Ethernet. Is there a good online reference for setting up comms using RSLinx? Also, any ideas/advice/comments about this setup are greatly appreciated.

Okay, I used the BOOTP-DHCP Server to set the IP address and disable the BOOTP/DHCP so that the address remains permanent after power cycle. Then I configured an Ethernet IP driver in RSLinx Lite. I can now see the 1100 in RSLogix 500. I am online with the device. Now I just need to write a simple program that reads 3 words.
