The most useful tool I have for DeviceNet diagnostics is the handheld "DeviceNet NetMeter". The company that makes it has changed hands or names a few times: it was SST, then Brad Harrison, then Molex. Molex's website is a fright: http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/1120080002_FIELD_ATTACHABLE.xml#partdetail Search around under the name "NetMeter" or the part number "DN-MTR-A" for resellers with proper websites that include pictures and manuals. If I could have only one tool to troubleshoot a DeviceNet, that would be it. Protocol analyzers and oscilloscopes are necessary for some work, but the NetMeter is the most useful because it analyzes the network from the CAN transceiver's point of view.
