Panel View Plus 1000

I have a panelview that recently died on me. I get the 40 EXE message and my fault and com lights on the terminal are both steady on. Based on the User Manual for the unit, my Panel View is done for. I tried to connect with RSLinx via the Ether/IP connection but it wouldn't let me see it. I then tried to PING the address on the network and got a time out message. I have also attempted to connect my RS232 patch cord directly to the PV and yet again nothing. The 40 EXE error states that I can recover by updating my firmware, but the status indicators tell me a different story. Just wanted to get some feed back on this issue from more experienced users.
