Omniflex/Maxiflex Advice

I've been asked to look at making a small modification to a system that is an Omniflex piece of kit, 2 Maxiflex CPUs. Just wanting to prepare before going there with a simple question, neither of the CPUs have been interoggated since installation 7 years ago, so with that in mind, what are the chances of some sort of 'crash' or catastrophic failure when I go along and plug in a cable to make a small code change? thanks... Daryl
