Offlink Address

hi, guys i am a newbie in Citect, probably my question is stupid. i need to configure the ABEI protocol offlink address ( format: PMM:C[options],u ) P - is the router module pushwheel number (0 to 4) MM - is the module type (RM or KA) C - channel number u - station number I dont know what is router module pushwheel and module type in my case( SLC 5/03 is connected to Ethernet via AB 1761 ENI ) Anyone can give me some help? Thanks

Hey, I am not a specialist in Abei but the description of the AB 1761 ENI module says : Lets any device that can initiate a CIP data table read or write on an EtherNet/IP link through a 1761-NET-ENI/B (e.g., PanelView, ControlLogix, RSLinx) access a Logix processor data table. This eliminates the requirement of mapping PLC/SLC file numbers to Logix tag names. So i think you do not need offlink addressing and you can communicat o to the SLC as if i were an PLC5. hi, Jim Thanks for your reply. But from the Citect help file, it says "Off-link addressing allows communication with a station (PLC) that is not on the local link, and is required for PLCs that cannot have support and ethernet interface (like SLCs). This is done via 1785-KA, 1785-KA5 or PI routing. " From my understanding, the 1761-NET-ENI is in the local link, but the PLC isn't, and SLC 503 has not enthernet interface. Do I need to configure it ? Jeff

hey Jeff, As i said i am not an AB specialist (actually i have never seen such a plc), i do know alot about citect. When i read the documentation of the module it seems as if it is an interface betwen ethernet and the SLC. the documentation sates "This eliminates the requirement of mapping PLC/SLC file", i am guessing this sentence means you dont need offlink adressing. in the citect help is one example addess and it says "IP address: 192.192.192.99" you could try to use this address. If you need more help i would suggest signing up to the citect users list and asking your question there. You have to create a mycitect account and then sign up to the users list. sorry thats all i can help, Jim

Hello, The easiest way to achieve what you are trying to do is to use Citect's ABRSLINX driver to talk to RSLINX's API, which then talks to the SLC via whatever route you have created. This scenario means that you do not have to worry about offlink addressing. Alternatively you can use Citect's client OPC driver to talk to RSLINX's OPC Server to achieve the same thing.
