slc o4 Modem communication

Recently been involved in project with slc04 with dial up access thro RS232 port but modem is password protected I suspect(as I have tried to dial in remotely and connects to modem but goes no further .Have copy of program but before removing batteryand dumping program would like to compare program running with backup.Port 0 is setup for modem but unable to change same by accessing thro 9-Pin D serial port as cannot connect when trying to go in from laptop.Unfortunately have do connection not have the card to go in from DH+.Any suggestions would swapping the modem(origial MRI serial model) maybe a solution for access to compare?
