About Me

The north fork of Big Pine is the easiest way to access Picture Puzzle. The North Fork approach involves cross-country climbing up a moraine valley. Once you reach the summit, you'll see the steep NE-facing couloir that leads to the top. The couloir can be filled with snow or empty, depending on the weather. The South Fork approach uses the Bishop Pass trail. This approach is the most straightforward and convenient for accessing the mountain.

There are two trailheads for the Picture Puzzle. The North Fork approach begins at Sixth Lake and continues east to the summit. The South Lake approach is more difficult but still possible. Depending on the weather, you can expect to climb Picture Puzzle while the snow is deep and windy. Once you're there, you'll find the perfect spot to watch the sunrise. It will be worth your while to get the perfect shot. There are no other trails to the summit of Picture.

So make sure you bring a good pair of skis or snowboards for this hike.
