Ml1200r (shared Ports?)

3 posts in this topic

excuse me about the next cuestion just need be sure I try to use Channel 0 of ML1200R by communicate with a ASCII Device (Read and Write commands) and Channel 1 for Comunicate with a PanelView300 (DF1 communication Protocol) at this time i have communication problems in order to do this configuration. it is possible? so i have two answer for this configuration but i dont know what is true. Answer 1 (by an Assessor): The answer is no. Because you really only have one port and the second port is via a port splitter i.e. shared port. The real issue is the shared ports must share the same protocol. So you cannot configure one for ASCII and one for DF1. The basic idea was to allow you to have two ports as follows: one for a HMI (PV) and one for programming (RSLinx and Logix500). In this case, both devices would be DF1 RS232. Normally, you would configure the port for ASCII when you need ASCII protocol.... However, in order to support remote connections via RS232 dial-up modems... it is possible to configure the ch0 port as DF1 and still send ASCII data (cannot receieve ASCII data in this mode). Answer 2 ( http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/i...um001_-en-p.pdf )If you look at page 4-1 (page 65 of Acrobat document) of this users manual, the end of the third paragraph describes exacting what am i trying to accomplish. On page E-12 (134), a note describes using channel 0 for ASCII communication. Please Help me with this Edited by Delt

Yes, you can do what you are asking; this was an old issue with firmware FRN 10. If your ML 1200 is FRN 10.1 or greater, you can do it. If you have FRN 10 or older, follow the steps listed at this link: http://domino.automation.rockwell.com/appl...AC?OpenDocument
