By what method can I export data from a SLC 500 PLC to MS Excel or Access possibly over serial communication.

Do you have RS Linx running already? You could use DDE to do this. There are several example programs in the downloads section to help you get started.

Chakorules, Thanks for the reply. I am trying to run without RSLinks. We only have one copy of the software. I am trying to get away with not spending the money for more software. Any suggestions would be appreciated. cekann

If you have one of the SLCs that has a RS232 port for channel 0, you can place it in user mode and send strings of the data you are looking for out to the PC. Then use one of those utilities that automatically takes the serial data and enters it in your speadsheet. Down and dirty but it can work. Edited by jstolaruk

Whelp....You said you didn't want to spend any money, so I dunno for sure. But I have used WinSPC before. You can configure it to capture just about any string from any RS-232 device and parse it for you. http://www.winspc.com/winspc.htm OOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... You can use the MSCOMM object in Excel, and capture strings with this activeX component. If you don't have MSCOMM, try downloading an installing "Super Comm". http://www.adontec.com/scocx_e.htm <---cost money I have also "played" with this... http://www.windmill.co.uk/rs232.html But never used it in a real job.
