Get live data from Micro870 to Excel

2 posts in this topic

I have a safety system that I've set up that has a Micro870 communicating with a 440C-CR30-BBB safety controller.  I figured out that, while the 440C can support ethernet for programming, the modbus is only RTU, not TCP, and the serial port is disabled while the ethernet plugin is installed (SMH).  So, I've got the ethernet port disabled.  This means, that I cannot see the safety controller live, except for the modbus data that's going over to the PLC, unless I'm sitting in the cabinet with a USB cable.  I'm fine with that for programming, but for troubleshooting, I would prefer to be at my desk with dual screens and a real mouse.  Since CCW is not the best tool for visualizing data, I would like to get live data from the Micro870 over into excel.  I have done this easily with my older SLC5's with the RSLinx DDE/OPC link, but it does not seem to work with the Micro870.  Is there some other way of getting the data for this model of PLC?
