S5 GREEN RUN. NO RED, BUT NO GO

7 posts in this topic

Hello, I do some troubleshooting and repair for a few companies that have machines still running S5. Thanks to Classic Automation they are still running.   I have one now that is doing something I that I have not encountered before.   A steady Green run with NO red stop or fault lights. A Steady green Light usually means good to go.  But its no - go.     No Outputs are on at all.   I replaced the Output module that feeds the control-on contactors.   But nothing. It seems like something is halting the code from switching the outputs, but, I thought that if the code was halted or a module was bad I would get a RED Stop LED or flashing fault.  But, what I have is a CPU telling me it’s good to go,  which is totally opposite from the usual unrelenting flashing Red LED of Frustration.

Any thoughts, comments,   anecdotes  (especially the anecdotes)  appreciated.

Yes, thanks for the nod toward the program.  This machine was configured with a host PC and RAM module (no eeprom).   I revived the dead PC last summer (win 98) to download the original program to the S5 when we replaced the CPU.  There is program called MC5.exe  its all in German so I had to have a tech from the machine tool distributor network assist.   I managed to get remote access setup using tight VNC.   He did it from Germany.

I have conversation started with Classic Automation to select and flash an eeprom.  They are a distributor for Delta Logic ACCON PG 2.62 software and from posts on this forum I’ve been looking at IBH Softech which looks like a clear front runner for troubleshooting.

With the two suggestions you all made my gut tells me the MC5 program that came with the machine could do the job. I just need to learn some German, but MC5 doesn’t seem to show up on any google searches I’ve made and my gut is telling me its machine builder made and there may be passwords I don’t have.  The software does launch and looks like the delta logic DOS version.

Has anyone heard of or used MC5 software?  Working with the machine tool distributor takes a long time to get to someone who knows the S5 and there isn’t much enthusiasm since it reached end of life.

Have you any screen shots of this software?

Have you have any files that have the extension .S5D ?

I found and read the Help.txt file in the program directory.   Looks like I can change the language to English.   from a quick glance it looks like they really try to limit what can be done, but if I can read the Istack info and force outputs that would be better than being in the dark.

I have some screen shots and the help file I'm trying to upload but it keeps failing.  Do I need some kind of permission on my account to upload?

thanks

The IBH S5-S7 for windows software works well for this, I have it in a Win7 VM using a USB converter for the S5 interface. It sounds like the processor battery died and the program is gone.
