Can't connect to PLC

18 posts in this topic

Hello,

I am an absolute noob when it comes to PLCs. I have very limited experience. Took a couple classes a couple years ago but haven't done anything since.

I am trying to connect cx-programmer to a CP1L and continuously get "failed to connect" the driver is up to date according to my old crappy laptop. Can I get some help please?!

I am trying to connect via USB, doesn't appear to have a serial or Ethernet port on this PLC.

Good Morning,

Guessing the USB driver is not loaded.

Please see this YouTube video.

That was one thing I did make sure was good. Driver is loaded and when I look in device manager it shows it connected there, just when I go to connect it via Cx-Programmer is when I get the failed to connect.

Check the Help, About menu.

What is your CX-Programmer version?

What operating system are you using?

What operating system is on your computer?

Are you trying to use Auto Online, or setting the connection manually?

Ok, try setting it up manually.

File, New, you should get a Change PLC dialog box.

For the Device Type click the down arrow and choose the CPU.  CP1L then the Settings button choose the correct type. Then OK.

For Network Type, USB should be selected.  that should be correct.

Then click OK.

From the PLC pull down menu, click Work Online.  This should get connected.

If not, let me know what error messages you get.

In the device type it has CPM1 (CPM1A) selected and when I use the drop box there is no option for CP1L. Why is that?

Sounds like it might be a demo version.

How did you get the software?

We got this a year or two ago to help troubleshoot issues we were having with a conveyor. That guy has left but it doesn't appear to be a demo version.

Originally the PLC they were working with was a CPM1 and a CPM1A so it makes sense why those were the selected PLC type. It's odd that there is a very long list of device types but doesn't have a CP1L in the list

Any idea if he registered the software?

You can do online updates to CX-One if the software is registered.

CP1L should be listed.  That product has been around since 2007.

It is supported in both the Lite and Full versions for CX-Programmer.

Can you check with your distributor to see if they can verify the version purchased?

Yes it is registered to our company. It was installed June 6th, 2021. The problem currently is that something is wrong with the laptop it's on where it won't connect the the buildings wifi. Maybe I plug an Ethernet cable into it and see if I can get some internet and see if there is an update for the software. If there is where would I find that?

From your Start menu, go to the Omron program group.

You should find an Omron Automation Auto Update choice.

This may or may not need to be updated, but it will check the server and update any of the CX-One programs as required.

This may take some time.

Of course it's ADMIN blocked. But even if it were to search online for updates it'll never find any because the computer won't connect to the web. I'll have to get with my IT department and maybe supervisor and see if he can get this thing unblocked. I appreciate all the help and if they move fast enough hopefully you're still around in case I need further assistance. I really appreciate it.
