s7-300 ethernet connection

6 posts in this topic

Hello,
I just installed the Step 7 V5.7 on my windows 10 laptop.
Was running the Step 7 V5.1 SP3 version on a virtual machine before.
Found out that my old rs232/MPI-DP adapter is not supported anymore.
So i have to buy a new adapter.
instead i was thinking to connect with ethernet so i don't have to leave my desk every time i make some changes.
I guess i need the CP343 module for this ?

Now that one is really expensive.
Does anyone know any other options ?

Thank's for the help.
Dieter.

Morning,

You could use indeed a CP343-1 Lean card wich is the basic version of the CP343 but it's still very expensive and probably not available at all at the moment.

A cheapest solution is to use an Ethernet/Profibus gateway (yes another gateway ;-)) like this one : https://www.ibhsoftec.com/epages/63444704.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63444704/Products/20266 I never used it but IBH is well known for their compatible Siemens products.

Thanks for the advice.

I have a siemens hmi laying around.

This one has profibus and ethernet connection.

Would it be possible to program the plc thrue the hmi?

The hmi is currently not used, i don't have wincc to program it.

Sorry but you can not use the HMI as a gateway. Go for the IBH (or similar) gateway or try to find an used CP343 at a decent price.

I've used the IBH gateway before and it worked reasonably well but initial setup was a bit involved and it was expensive. I don't know how the price compares to an in-chassis module, but it does simplify things in that it isn't added to the PLC's hardware configuration.
