ROLE PURPOSE:
Deliver automation, instrumentation, commissioning, and related services on FLSmidth equipment to global customer field locations either through onsite visits or through remote services. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment performance and provide solutions through consultation and/or direct intervention using PLC programming and other technical skills.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· In collaboration with the regions involved in mining industry services, provide automation support by installing, commissioning, maintaining, and inspecting automation and process control systems on FLSmidth equipment to ensure reliability of data and allow process control optimization.
· Commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of machine and plant control systems for FLSmidth products.
· Provide expert services in Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), PLCs, and related engineering documents including functional specifications, drawings and blueprints.
· Deliver automation and instrumentation advice and support that is needed for successful commissioning.
· Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for relevant equipment in conjunction with the automation engineering team.
· Work closely with mining customers in troubleshooting automation related issues and providing subject matter expertise in discovering root causes and delivering solutions resulting in good customer relations.
· Deliver remote services to customers using remote support software, or augmented reality tools such as augmented reality goggles, web conference, phone, text, and email
· Train customers in use of FLSmidth automation packages.
· Provide detailed technical reports on automation package commissioning and maintenance visits.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in Rockwell and Siemens PLC programming is required, and Schneider, Beckhoff, ABB or Opto-22 experience is desirable.
- Proficiency in SCADA packages such as FactoryTalk and Ignition. The successful candidate will also be trained in FLSmidth’s proprietary SCADA package.
- Standard PLC programming languages required: ( Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text) with experience in higher level languages like Python and Java desirable.
- Subject Matter Expert level knowledge of automation and control system principles.
- Willing to communicate with customers by phone and/or email outside normal hours.
- Ability to travel internationally and comply with pandemic and other country specific regulations.
- Willing to travel between 50 to 75%, frequently to remote locations.
- Degree in Automation Control Systems, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred but not required if experience is extensive.
- Proven experience in writing technical reports.
- Experience in the mining industry or knowledge of mining processes a plus.
COMPENSATION: Competitive with an attractive benefits package. Eligible for overtime pay. Per diem allowance depending on the location.
