Posted 10 Dec 2021 Dear Mr, We have a PLC ( CP1H) and an Ethernet option board ( CP1W-CIF41 ) operating in an apart location, and we need to connect this PLC with an HMI (which is located in a separate place) (NB10W-TW01B) via the internet (wirelessly). we do have separate internet connections in both locations. Does HMI have a Router Number? Can you please give us the procedures and guidelines to connect the PLC and HMI? Thank you.
Posted 10 Dec 2021 (edited) We'll see if we can get a moderator to move this to the Omron forum. I would think that your best option would be to use VPN so both locations can be on the same network. This would be done with your infrastructure and not in the PLC or HMI. Edited 10 Dec 2021 by IO_Rack
Posted 10 Dec 2021 I concur with IO Rack that you establish a VPN between the PLC Site and the HMi Site at the hardware level and then setup the PLC to HMI connection just like you would if they were in the same building. Trying to open the proper ports for the PLC and HMI to talk across the Internet without benefit of VPN is leaving you open to hackers. A product along the lines of this from Phoenix Contact would most likely work - https://www.phoenixcontact.com/online/portal/us?uri=pxc-oc-itemdetail:pid=2200515&library=usen&tab=1 1 person likes this
Posted 10 Dec 2021 Thanks, Bob! That's a pretty sweet family of devices. It even supports GRE tunnels.
