Posted 26 Mar 2022 If this was an American install i would refer you to the national electric code. You need to follow your UK code. The following might be how it would work out from the US NEC. you would be taking into account and sizing the OCD (Over Current Device) for the motor. starting here - https://learnmetrics.com/kw-to-hp-converter/ -- 5kW translates to 6.7 hp then assuming three phase 460 power from here - http://www.electricalhelper.com/nec430-250.htm -- 6.7hp rounded to 7.5 hp translates to 11 amp looking to the cable ampacity chart here - https://media.distributordatasolutions.com/ThomasAndBetts/v2/part2/files/File_7437_emAlbumalbumsOcal20(USA)oc_1_g_nec31016pdfClickHerea.pdf turns out to 14 awg minimum. Posted 29 Mar 2022 distance from power distribution plays a part in this as well. I typically use a voltage drop calculator for convenience. https://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html?necmaterial=copper&necwiresize=6&necconduit=steel&necpf=0.85&material=copper&wiresize=3.277&resistance=1.2&resistanceunit=okm&voltage=515&phase=ac3&noofconductor=1&distance=300&distanceunit=feet&eres=25&x=26&y=23&ctype=nec
Posted 29 Mar 2022 UK has own electrical code and if installation is in UK, that is the code to be followed. This seem to be it: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=ideas-and-advice/electrical-wiring-regulations-guide#:~:text=BS%207671%20is%20the%2018th,%2C%20commercial%2C%20and%20industrial%20properties.
