Posted 19 Feb 2021 I'm trying to connect a SMC EX-260 to a Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC so I can run some valves with it. However, RsLogix 500 doesn't allow me to just setup a generic ethernet device like I would on RsLogix 5000. Is there a way I can communicate these devices together so I can use the SMC Valve system with my Micrologix?
Posted 22 Feb 2021 Not really. Or, at least, not easily. The ML series isn't designed to handle I/O peripherals over Ethernet/IP. All you could do is set up some MSG instructions to communicate with the valve bank. That's going to be a really daunting task, basically building your own communications driver from scratch. SMC may be able to help you with that. I set up a similar valve bank to communicate with a CompactLogix and it was very straightforward and simple with minimal help from SMC to get it going, but the ML is a different beast. Posted 22 Feb 2021 The Micrologix is not an Ethernet/IP scanner. Have a look at the SMC EX-260 manual for Explicit Messaging. In the Micrologix, you'll use the MSG instruction.
