CJ2M F3 error

I have a project that I originally set up with IP 10.16.8.x and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and all was well. Project engineer tells me I should use subnet mask 255.0.0.0 so I changed the PLC accordingly. Now communications is still good but CPU has MS led flashing red and code F3 displayed. I understand there is some kind of magic calculation needed for the subnet mask but I cannot find a document that helps me.
