Communication between two PLC brands.

3 posts in this topic

I want to take data from an AllenBradley SLC 505, and send it to an Omron NX102-9000.

Specifically F8: 46 from my SLC 505, which is a temperature sensor.

Both PLCs are on the same Ethernet network, each with its own IP address.

Have you tried it?

I'm not an Omron guy (never used them), so I don't know if they can be directly connected together. I know that Red Lion HMIs and DataStations support communication gateways between devices. They definitely can talk to the 5/05 and support Omron FINS. They're pretty cost-effective too, with the CR1000-04000 at $467 here from Newark. It looks like they're a bit more expensive in Denmark. That's significantly cheaper than the protocol converter I used to connect an AB PLC to a Siemens S7-300 and far easier to use. If you can get them to talk directly, that would be better, but I like the Red Lion as a gateway device.
