Cammed Servo Control

5 posts in this topic

What is the best software/application to use for editing cam profiles in Studio/RSLogix?  I have a machine with 4 knife blades on a rotating load.  These blades would need to be cammed to a conveyor based on size of the current products recipe.  I know the diameter of the load, and gearing, but I am not sure how to calculate my cam points.  Thanks.

I'm not very experienced in Servo Motion design, I've more often used and modified systems designed by those wiser than I.  It sounds like you need an inches of conveyor travel to degrees of knife cage rotation cam table.  I'm thinking Excel might be an excellent tool for building the cam table.  But please don't ask me how it would be done.  Hopefully others with more experience can comment.

Rockwell has a "free" download for a program called "Motion Analyzer".  It will give your the cam profile needed.  It will even write the code for your PLC.

Thanks @pcmccartney1 for chiming in.  Figures RA would come up with a tool to do that.

Any tips on how to use the software effectively.  There isn't much material out there on how to get the most out of it.
