MCR Contactor sizing

3 posts in this topic

Hello, In my project I have to chose MCR Contactor ( EATON). Just wondering is there a formula for right sizing? Is it just 100%x Current Load? or something else?    Thank you in an advance.

practically it is never 100%... everything needs some safety margins. conductors, overcurrent protection, switching devices... refer to CEC.

also you need to understand type of load, type of circuit (DC, AC1, AC3) etc. relays and contactors have very different ratings for them.

same device could be rated for 10A AC1,  or 16A AC3, or 3A DC.

If the CEC to which @panic mode mode refers is anything like the NEC that we deal with in the US there are charts and tables ad naseum to aide you and walk you through sizing everything from the OCD, through the wires, through the MCR and to the Field Device.  It is a big headache to work through the first few times, but with practice comes ease.  Good Luck !! and Welcome to MR PLC @gleboffct@gmail.com
