PLC 5/40E Communication

4 posts in this topic

Looking to add 3 new proface HMI's over ethernet to an existing PLC 5/40E Rev E.2. Does anyone have any experience do this?

My concern will be delay in communication with that many devices.

I have confirmed that proface is compatible.

Been a while since I worked with a Proface to an older AB like that.  I can tell you that you need to watch the number of connections you make to the PLC.  They are limited in number and you'd be surprised how fast they are used up.  One HMI reading B3, N7, T4 and N77 could consume as fwe as 4 or as many as 16 connections.  The best advice is keep your HMI handshakes and comms in a tight group as this cuts down the connection count.  The user manual for the 5/40E has information on connections and reaching the registers and pages to monitor connections.
