B&R X20 PLC

5 posts in this topic

Hi everyone, this is my first post in here! I recently get a B&R PLC from my school, model X20 BC 0083, which actually looks old. I just downloaded Automation Studio V4.8 as evaluation license. Well the thing is that when I look for my PLC in the initial setup it doesn´t appear, although some similar models do show up. Hope somebody who has worked with this PLC´s or knows how to solve this issue can help me. Another doubt I have is, this thing looks a little old, can it be the software version does not support it? Thanks in advance!

By the way I´m currently studying mechatronics and have 1 year left, so hopefully I can develop my project with this PLC. Cheers from GDL Mexico.

You many need to install the "Upgrades" for that particular bus coupler. Its also possible that an older one is not supported in that release of AS.

Hello @Cetiano GDL,

X20BC0083 is not a PLC. It's a bus controller module, that's why the module doesn't appear in Automation Studio.

I've got several B&R PLC in some OEM Systems in our plant.  For the most part we treat them as "Black Boxes" they either work or we swap them out with a store room spare and it works.  Never delved into the programming in much depth, but I've worked with Omron, Toshiba, Rockwell and Modicon PLCs over the past 30 years and the B&R is not one of my favorites.  If you're starting out there are definitely more user friendly PLC for only a few thousand pesos.
