1762-IF4 power question

Does anyone know, when you plug a new 1762-if4 analog card into an ML 1200 PLC, will the LED on the if4 card go on right away, or does the card have to be fully configured first before the cards LED will turn on? Of course I would think that it should powerup straight away, or how could it be configured without power.
