Posted 14 Nov 2019 Trying to connect our old Sysmac C200HE PLC to the CX-Programmer software however, failed connection appears. We are using a USB-Serial connection and have set up the comms on the device manager. To try and connect to the PLC we are using the Auto connect function, selecting the usb-serial connection and selecting the comms the same as the host network. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Posted 14 Nov 2019 Have you used the USB to serial converter to connect to other Omron controllers? CS1W-CIF31 is the Omron converter. It is not inexpensive, but it works.
Posted 14 Nov 2019 This is the first time we have used the usb to serial convertor. does it need to be this specific Omron convertor in order for this to work I guess? Thanks for the reply much appreciated!
Posted 14 Nov 2019 It does not need to be the Omron converter. However, not all USB to serial converters are created equal. We have found the units with the FTDI chipset are best.
Posted 15 Nov 2019 when I get the cable you recommended do you have any guidance on how to set up the convertor ?
Posted 15 Nov 2019 The manual is W417. I would suggest downloading the latest version from Omron's website in your region. They may refer to loading the Windows drivers from a CD ROM but they can be found on your PC in C:\Program Files (x86)\OMRON\Drivers\USB\CS1W-CIF31 directory. Make sure your CX One is up to date. Posted 25 Nov 2019 (edited) The most common problem is using commercial off-the-shelf cables between the PLC and USB converter. Omron does not use standard pinouts on most RS-232 connectors. Never plug the RS232-USB converter directly into the PLC. Prefabricated cable: C200HS-CN220, or make your own: Use a DB9 Male cable connector to mate with the Female PLC Serial Port, use a DB9 Female cable connector to mate with the Male PC Serial Port PLC<------>PC 2<--------->2 3<--------->3 9<--------->5 On PLC connector only, Jump together pins 4 & 5 On PC connector only, Jump together pins 4 & 6, jump together pins 7 & 8 Leave all other unspecified pins unconnected Solder shield or drain wire only to the metal hood of the PLC connector, do not connect other end. If the Omron-side plug must be fastened down, please order connector kit CJ1W-CN001, which includes one male connector body, back-shell and hardware. Omron devices use non-standard metric jackscrews, whereas most American connectors come with 4-40UNF threads which won't fit.
