DH485 RJ45 switch or hub

11 posts in this topic

Ok I have beat my head against the wall for long enough trying to research this.

Im running a AB SLC5/03 and a HMI from Parker P11

The PLC and HMI are communicating on DH485. The communication cable is a RJ45 to the PLC and a DB9 Female at the HMI.

Problem im having is I need to communicate with the plc with out disconnecting the HMI. The RS232 port on the PLC seems to have an issue with communication.

is it possible to run a switch or hub between the PLC and HMI so I can plug my 1747UIC RJ45 plug into the switch or hub and be able to communicate with the PLC?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have connected 2 dtam units to one slc 5/03 with an rj11 (I think) splitter.  You might be able to use this as a method but I have not ever attempted this.

With the proper  cables (and your UIC) an AIC+ will work for this.

See pdf

What is the issue with the RS232 port?

How is the RS232 port  configured? Check the offline file.

We might be able to help solve the "issue".

I have tried over and over again trying to connect to the rs232 port with no success. I have attached the channel config.5d75491606cb3_Chanconfig.PNG.61f312b371a

that would be key of course.

If you can get online at all thru the DH485 port then I would change the control line protocol to no handshacking. That way a 3 wire null modem cable should work.

You may need a null modem cable with handshacking lines to get connected with how its set up now. ( I no expert on that though)

Ok I will try that. I have no problem connecting over DH485.

Not all USB to serial adapters work. What brand do you have?

If that is what you are using to connect to the serial port.

Now that makes a lot of sense. Just picked up an adapter. I will give that a shot.
