Point IO Status

3 posts in this topic

I'm working on my 1st project using Point IO modules. I'm using an L33ER processor to communicate to two modules over etherent. I'm still very new to using 5000, but is there a way to use a GSV to check the status of the Modules, as far as communications, faults, etc?

The easy thing to do is check the Status tag that is created as part of the Input connection for the 1734-AENT Adapter. It will have a "1" in each of 64 possible bit positions for the fault status of each possible POINT module on the backplane. If all the bits =1, the DINT value of the whole tag will be = -1 and you know you've lost connection to the adapter entirely (it's powered down or unplugged). You can use a GSV to check the connection status of each module's Module object, too. There is a whole programming manual dedicated to that sort of thing; 1756-PM014. http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/pm/1756-pm014_-en-p.pdf
