Posted 24 Jun 2014 Hi everyone, I got a cylinder with machine fluid lubricant filled in it. I want to add an alarm system where an alarm buzzes when the liquid level falls below certain limit. The cylinder is a closed and opaque. I was wondering if I can drill the cylinder and put some kind of sensor and connect it to an alarm. If it works, can any one let me know what kind of sensor best suits for this application. Thanks in advance, _SKR.
Posted 25 Jun 2014 (edited) How about something like this: http://www.musasino.biz/products/switchace.php or if you want to put it on the side of the tank instead of from the top try something like this: http://www.liquidlevelsystems.com/pages/products/float-level-switches/ We use both of these type of floats on our Fuel Oil, Lube oil and Hydrolic Oil tanks. (although not these brands I just pulled this stuff off the WEB. Not sure what size tank you have ours range from a few hundred gallons to 30,000 gallons. Or you could always install an analog sensor and monitor the continuous level and set alarm values at certain analog points. This would require additional equipment and would cost much, much more. Just depends on what your looking for. BCS Edited 25 Jun 2014 by Bering C Sparky
Posted 25 Jun 2014 (edited) After reading you post again I see you used the word cylinder and not tank. Perhaps you are looking for something a bit smaller than I suggested in my previous post. Maybe one of these would work for you. http://www.gemssensors.com/en/Products/Level/Single-Point-Level-Switches/Float/Side-Mount/Alloy BCS Edited 25 Jun 2014 by Bering C Sparky
Posted 25 Jun 2014 (edited) Sorry, I seem to be having a tough time comprehending english today for some reason. You said "opaque" so it is plastic and probably not large enough for a float type switch. Have not tried this one but might be worth a look, Non-Intrusive so you wont have to drill the cylinder, probably needs a relatively clean enviroment though from the looks of it. http://www.gemssensors.com/About-Gems-Sensors/Press-Release/New-ExOsense-Non-Intrusive-Liquid-Level-Sensor BCS Edited 25 Jun 2014 by Bering C Sparky
Posted 25 Jun 2014 Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. I meant opaque--> not transparent its a solid steel material. The cylinder tanks are 5-10 liters in volume.
Posted 26 Jun 2014 (edited) Thats what threw me, since you specified that it is "opaque" I started thinking about it and assumed it must be plastic and you were pointing out it was not transparent, that description would be a given when talking about a steel container. My mistake, I am learing from it though, (Ducks in a row) gotta get the details before jumping to conclusions. Thanks and good luck on your project. Posted 26 Jun 2014 Not a problem. If you come across any other sensors please post the link here. I'm looking for a simple and easy to use sensor. Best Regards, _SKR.
