Encoder for use with 1769-HSC

2 posts in this topic

I'm looking for an incremental rotary encoder for use with a 1769-HSC module. I really just need to be able to calculate the RPM of the shaft it's connected to (shouldn't exceed a few hundred RPM), and was looking at a Red Lion solution (http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=70030292#tab=overview) but am uncertain if it will be compatible. My concern is the 40mA NPN output current, when the 1769-HSC has in input current max of 15mA (Am I possibly misinterpreting this?). Does anyone have another brand they have had success with in the past? Thanks.

I'd use a differential encoder (digital) in order to avoid "electrical" issues. Dynapar HA25 or HR25 series http://www.dynapar.com/Products_and_Solutions/Series_HA25_Shafted_Encoder/ Allen-Bradley 845H Series http://ab.rockwellautomation.com/Motion-Control/High-Performance-Incremental-Optical-Encoder#/tab5 This is your HSC module's User Manual: http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/in/1769-in030_-en-p.pdf
