Posted 18 Oct 2012 We are using Dell computers to communicate with AB Micrologix 1000 controller in classroom environment. The computer does not have a rs-232 input so we bought the Gigware rs-232 to usb converter from Radio Shack. The problem is that communications does not stay in machine. It seems to time out or change the df-1 setting and also the node setting. I would like some input into what may be needed to help this situation. Thanks for your input. Posted 19 Oct 2012 (edited) Another possibility is that Windows is turning off power to the USB adapter after a period of inactivity to save energy. Here is a link to an article regarding this. If you have more than one root USB hub I find it easier to identify which controls the device by switching, under 'View', to 'Devices by connection. Make sure your adapter is connected and working. You may have to drill down into the computer but you will eventually find the USB root hubs and under them the devices each controls. You may want to turn off power management only to the one your USB-to-serial adapter is connected.
