I was searching for some old software for a Total Control Products Smart Touch HMI. For kicks I went to the 10th page on a Google search then gave up to ask this question.

I usually give up by the second or third page and try and refine or rephrase my search. If you think about it, we've gotten spoiled.

I usually don't get to the halfway mark of the first page before I start rethinking my search terms. I have to be looking for something very specific to go past the second page

I checked "When I'm Bored" After the third or forth page you start to see duplicates of what you saw on the prevision page.

The product was bought out by GE and is not distibuted by them. You might find some archeved pages for it at archives.org.

Yeah it's obsolete to say the least. I did talk to GE and they say its still supported. Problem is none of my vendors have any idea what I am talking about. I'll check out archives.org, thanks. Edited by robh

Speaking of search, does anyone find the MrPLC search feature as useless as I do? It seems to bring up irrevelant posts and in no particular order. Maybe a Google search feature could be added to this site instead?? No offense Chris!!

You can search this site from google using the site: modifier in google. eg, "Total Control Products Smart Touch HMI" +google site:forums.mrplc.com will get you this thread and another where the robh is talking about the same unit. Click here and I'll you how it works. ;)

No that wasn't so hard (thanks for the dig) . I already knew about the Google site modifier feature. I'm just saying a Google search feature built into the MrPLC site would work much better than the one being used now. By the way, for your example you don't need to include "+Google" in your search string. You can just put "Total Control Products Smart Touch HMI" site:forums.mrplc.com, or put the site at the beginning: site:forums.mrplc.com "Total Control Products Smart Touch HMI"

I use Google search to search forums as Alaric suggested, by usiung the site: www.mrplc.com option. I will look through all the pages to finmd what I want but usually I narrow the search to reduce the number of pages I have to wade through.

With ten results per google page, I can usually find what I am looking for on the first page. But if I do go to the next page or beyond, its probably out of old habit of having to go to the third or fourth or tenth page to get your results due to all the porn links that used to come up in the early days of search engines. But, since I am from Google, er Topeka, all I can say is that Google has all I need, nothing I don't want, and is better than Cats. Oh wait, the deadline is past. Just tell that to the reporters still asking for interviews with the Mayor. Z Edited by Lordzorak
