Reading 5000 tags for LCD display Units

5 posts in this topic

All, I would like any suggestions or solutions on how to be able to read tag data from Logix 5000 and be able to display messages on large LCD screens. Is there a simple solution out there without large software expenses such as writing new VB programs?

It sounds like you're looking for some form of HMI Program to run on a PC and send displays to the LCD Monitors. The lists and costs are nearly limitless. I list what comes to mind quickly. 1. RSVIEW 2. Visual Basic 3. Wonderware 4. Cimplicity HMI

If your wanting to use large marquee style signs checkout the signs and ActiveX plugins made by adaptive microsystems. http://www.adaptivedisplays.com/Default.asp Like BobLfoot said RSVIEW Visual Basic, Wonderware or Cimplicity HMI would be a solution and the ActiveX plugins work well with their displays. I did a project a few years ago with their units and Wonderware.

If you are just trying to send strings out to something like a message board, and can format them in the PLC, you can look at one of the gateways from RTA Automation... They work great. http://www.rtaautomation.com/products/435/nba.html

The above comment also reminded me that you could export the data as an RS-232 stream assumming your LCD can accept properly formatted RS-232 data. You'll need something like a 1734-asc RS 232 module.
