OT, how to convert MOV files to WMV files

I have a Mac. There are all sorts of good media converters except there only seems to be one source of converters for converting MOV files to WMV files and that cost $179. http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm I need the HD version because I am doing screen capture videos or our product in action so the screen format is about 1280x720. The numbers on the screen must be clear I should have just spent the $179 because I have wasted too much time on finding a cheaper or free MOV to WMV codec. I can convert to MP4 and AVI but most people can't play these unless they have installed additional codecs. did you check http://www.videohelp.com/convert they seem to have tons of tools. Question: why WMV and not MPG for example? Also I would suggest to those people to try GOM Player. I like it way better than Windows media player, it is small, free, clean and it plays just about everything out of box.

Have you tried MOV to AVI and place AVI on DVD on your mac then take the DVD to a PC and do AVI to WMV. Your real problem is that MOV is Quicktime/Apple and WMV is Windows Media Video. The age old MAC/PC fight claims another victum.

VLC is another good option. I haven't had any luck making AVI files. I should try again.

I think your best bet would be to convert it to an MPEG2 format. Same format as DVD video. Any media player will be able to play it without additional codecs. Here is a guide using free tools: http://it-from-inside.blogspot.com/2008/11...-mov-video.html

I am recording a 1200x800 pixel or 1280x720 pixel area of a computer screen. MPEG2 doesn't provide the resolution and compression I need. The videos are big as it is. So far I have found MP4 format with the x264 codec provides the best combination of quality and size. The problem is that Windows Media Player doesn't play these files.
