Omron NS8-TV00B-V1 to Allen-Bradley Compactlogix 1769-L32E

6 posts in this topic

I was curious if anyone has an example using the NS8-TV00B-V1 (or similar NS screen) to an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 1769-L32E (or similar CompactLogix or ControlLogix PLC). I can get the screen to talk to the Allen-Bradley PLC by mapping the tags to N7, B3, T4, etc. within the PLC software, but cannot use the actual tag for a screen button or numerical entry/display.

Ron, If it is a matter of using the tags in CX-Designer, you just need to populate the symbol table (I would get the tags / addresses from your ladder into Excel, modify them to the proper format and paste them into the symbol table). This enables the programmer to choose a tag in CX-Designer and the symbol table would allow the NS to translate that to an address. However, if you are asking how you can use a tag in the PLC that is not tied to a specific address and then use that same tag in the HMI again, with no address, then I believe the answer is that this cannot be done. The HMI needs to point at a specific address. Hopefully this helps. Mike

Ron If I understand your question, then Mike's answer is correct. Using the tag names directly (not the actual address) is something that only a driver written for an AB implementation of Ethernet/IP can do.

I did not think he was using Ethernet IP since the screen is a -V1. I was assuming he was using DF1.

He's has to be using serial. It's a TV00B -no Ethernet.

Gentlemen, Thanks for the information. I was able to map tags in the Allen-Bradley software to communicate to the Omron touch screen (using B* for bit level, N* for integer level, F* for floating point level, and L* for double-integer level) . Unfortunately (but I was hoping it could be done) that the actual tag could not be used (for instance, in the CompactLogix software giving the name "PushButton" & addressing in the Omron touch screen "Pushbutton"). Thanks.
