Going online using RSLogix 500 and RSLinx Classic

I don't have a specific problem right now... What should be the proper way to connect to a Processor type 1747-L541C 5/04 CPU- 16K Mem. OS401 Series C. using RSLogix 500 and RSLinx Classic? and a laptop to go online? I only have a null 1747-CP3, SER. A RS232 cable that I want to configure. Could someone explain the steps for me, please. I mean from the beginning to the end. No shortcuts... Edited 14 Oct 2008 by Balandawi
