Bus faults using MPI adapter

3 posts in this topic

Hi A system I installed sometime ago has suddenly developed a strange fault which we appear to be able to find no reason for, in that there have been a number of issues with bus faults, the network consists of a 314C-2DP 2 x TP170B HMI & 15 SEW Movimot inverters. The system has been working well for over a year now with the occassional problem with the Movimots. Recently on advisement the client rewired the profibus network (basically just moving cable away from power cables etc) due to the fact that a fault could not be removed , there was also a issue where the CPU was suspected, this was changed by another company who uploaded the PLC program and configuration to download into a known working PLC, after this had been done the network appeared to be working, however if the MPI interface was removed from the profibus network the network failed i.e the PLC went into bus fault along with all the SEW drives. All settings have been checked, a previous hardware configuration has been downloaded to the PLC, (will point out that prior to the download the hardware configuration was uploaded and it was found to contain a number of nodes using the same io addresses, uploads since the download have been ok), also spoke to siemens tech support who say they have never come across this problem, Anyone got any ideas or come across this before?

What baudrate do you use on the DP network ? Are the HMI panels on the DP port or the MPI port ? Edited by JesperMP

Could you include a screen dump of the network configuration? Have you got the end of line resistors set correctly? Has anything else changed on plant at around the time the problem surfaced? Could this change have introduced noise of some sort? What do you mean the MPI interface was removed from the network, The network sounds like a profibus network. Do you mean the programming MPI interface? Edited by Mike Dyble
