Hi for what purpose you want to do so?

As Praveen has hinted you need to describe your understanding of the concept of reset before we can provide an accurate answer. The term reset can mean diffferent things to different people.

reset a bit? reset a word? reset a timer? reset a counter? reset a sequencer? reset an SFC? reset an IO card to default settings? clear all memory in the PLC? change the programming mode? modify the reset gain of a PID? Reset a machine position (which isn't actually the PLC although you may use the PLC to do it)? reset a totalizer? flash new firmware?

In the programming manual, it doesn't say much:

"For a controller with no memory card installed, the controller:
Detected a non-recoverable fault
Cleared the project from memory"

The recovery method:

1) Clear the fault.
2) Download the project
3) Change to Remote Run or Run mode.
If the fault persists:
1) Before cycling power to the controller, record the state of the OK and RS232 status indicators <-This is interesting since the -L72 doesn't have an RS232 port...
2) Contact Rockwell Automation support

You should still be able to get online with it. How do you normally connect to the PLC?

If you get online (you really should be able to while it's faulted), there may be more information there.

Joe has given some good advice here. As to what caused the fault, non-recoverable faults are usually hardware faults. When this happens, something has gone so catastrophically wrong that the controller erases its project from memory, leaving the I/O cards to their control I/O via their configuration files. As often as not, a non-recoverable fault results in the replacement of the controller card, so I would definitely spend some time trying to find out what caused this. Electrical power surges, loose power/ ground connections, and prolonged excessive heat are a handful of the things that can cause this.

Good luck!
