  2. There are a lot of instructions in function block that are missing the enable input that is present when programming in ladder logic, such as  ADD or MOV.  It seems to be very limiting. The only way around it that I know of is to write your own function block in ladder logic or statement list and use that. I seems rather limiting of a language if it relies on other languages for it to be usable. Does anyone know why the enable bit was left out in many function blocks when it is so useful in ladder logic? Pat
  3. I'm having trouble with some very basic programming using function blocks. Specifically Connect Components FB programming, but I think it is a general, common application. Using ladder logic, it is easy to set a value based on the status of a bit. If the bit is false, move a zero into the variable. If the bit is true, move and 88.0 into the value. This relies on the enable bit of the mov instruction in ladder logic. Many function block instructions do not have enable bits. How would I change the value of a variable based on the status of a bit using function block programming? A real world example: You have a two position selector switch. If it is turned to the left, the drive runs at 0 Hz. (off) if it is to the right, it runs at 88.0 Hz. Or if you have a 4 position selector and want to select between 4 speeds. This should be a simple task, right? I've called the tech connect support line a few times and sent them a few emails and they haven't been able to figure it out. This is such a basic task.     I need help with a program I wrote for school that didn't work quite right.  I have to make a chasing light program that will freeze the lights when a PB is engaged and reverse when PB is engaged on light 1.  The assignment has already been turned in but our instructor ( if you want to call him that) has told us a similar sequence will be on the final.  Can anyone help me out??

  7.   In this first picture is a numerical input with a monitor device D2058. In the whole GOT project this is the only device that saves the information inputed.   Then on que PLC sequence theres an instruction moving that device's value gotten from the GOT to the position module's buffer memory. My doubt comes when there's another device D10022Z9 getting the same value of D2058. In this case the Z9 index is always 0, I checked. In the whole PLC program this is the only part where the D10022Z9 appears, there is no instruction anywhere copying D2058 to D10022Z9 which is how I would think is the way it has the same data always. Am I missing something or how is this possible?

Hi there I'm an embedded software engineer mostly programming C/C++ in Linux and have very little knowledge of the PLC environment.  Recently my attention was diverted towards integrating C/C++ (Linux software) into PLC and then presumably as a function block which is supported with something called PLCOpen. Is that right ? How is multithread support in PLC in general ? and/or with the these function blocks or what ever might become instead when integrating/porting C/C++ code into PLC.  The current situation is purely embedded Linux environment with open-source 3rd party userland that our code relies heavily on. How feasible is to port such environment over to PLC (given that the system supports it) ? I've been looking into B&R Automation Studio 4 and having a hard time to establish concrete feeling on how difficult/easy it is to port the code.  Hope anyone can give me a slight insight into this.  Kind regards Einar

  17. I have a problem when trying to download a program from a FX1S-30MT PLC. I am using a SC-09 USB cable. The software i am using is GX Developer 8. When trying to download the MAIN program the screen in the attachment appears. I tested the download from another PLC of same model and have no problems, therefore the cable is ok, and the laptop is ok. When downloading of the parameters and comments does not give error, just when trying to download MAIN. Also I tested connection with Test Connection button and says communication is ok. Anyone who can help? I have a doubt, how can i see the communication parameters on the PLC side? Thanks a lot
  18. Hi all, Quick question about adding ENET modules to a plc. If I have a local network of a HMI, PLC and 1 device all on IP 192.168.255.x and I have another device across the plant with an address of 171.27.19.x, can I add that one device to the PLC and it will recognize it? Is there a way to add a device with a totally different IP address to a PLC that is already set up?
  19. Siemens S7-1500 and SICK

    Hello all, Let me start by saying that although I have been working with PLCs for 20+ years I am very (as in brand) new to the Siemens world (my wheelhouse is AB). That being said I have a Siemens S7-1500 (1511 specifically) CPU with a couple of SICK multi-turn Profi-Net encoders (AFM60A-S4NB018x12) that I need to talk to. - I am using TIA v13 with all of the updates. - I have the GSD file from SICK for the encoder. - I have no clue what I am doing - I can see the encoder values update in the watch table as I move the encoder. All fine and dandy so far... Here's where the white flag is going up.... - I am of the belief that there are existing function blocks out there 'somewhere' that can read and write to the base parameters. I have contacted our local rep who deferred me to SICK. I have emailed and left messages with them and have not gotten a return anything thus far. Here's our application... We are attaching each encoder to its own rotary gear mechanism. The rotary will need to turn in the CW direction approximately 400 degrees then return to its start point by rotating in the CCW direction by the same amount. If/When production/maintenance needs to 'rehome' the assembly, the expectation is that they 'pin' the drive in a known location then a bit would be set within the CPU that would assign a specific value to the encoder's actual position. In the SICK manual (8015078/YIX6/2015-01-16) on page 31 (section 3.6.3) there is reference to Preset control. This is what I believe we need to perform the aforementioned function. Does anyone have any examples that they could share on how to read/write to these encoders by use of a Function Block or other? Relatively desperate for help at this point. Can post test code if need be. Thank you in advance, TLAF

Now i need to transfer this program to a CJ1M-CPU13. I started to download from CJ1M-CPU11 to a file... them im running the Cx-programer on the CJ1M-CPU13, connection its ok, but when i try to transfer i get this error : The connect PLC type : CJ1M-CPU11 The Project PLC type : CJ1M-CPU13 Its possible to convert ?   22. Hello: I'm not sure how to go about creating the structure of this program, would like some ideas/help. I have a program that checks/reads 8 analog inputs and compares each input against 4 different settings, if the value is outside any of these settings the program runs a subroutine to send out an email for (Alarm/Event) notification for that particular input. The way the program is structured now is that it reads analog input 0 first and checks against the settings if the reading is not in range it will call a subroutine to send out email for that sensor(analog AI:0.0) then it will return and read for Analog input #1 and check reading and if it needs to it will call another subroutine to send out email for that sensor(analog AI:0.1) and so forth. What I need to add, is a way to count how many times a sensor(input) has sent the alarm email because I want to limit this to 5 notifications after that, stop sending emails. Now this has to be done for each sensor(input).(Note: I would also like to have a timer involved so that it will only send emails about every 15 minutes for 5 counts.) I need this because the plc will send out emails until the error for the sensor has been corrected, this could take a few hours and if I don't have some sort of control, that would result in 1000's of emails being sent and world probably get shut down for spamming. Would like some ideas on how I should go about this. I am using a micrologix 1100 and rslogix 500 software. Thanks

  24. I am writing a new program for a MicroLogix 1500 LRP Series C. When I verify the project I get the following errors: Program error ERROR: Attempted to set more IO data than has been allocated Program error ERROR: Incorrect Output Force File Size The IO Configuration should be correct because I had the software "Read IO Config". I don't see any unverified rungs. My software is RSLogix 500 Version 9.00.00 (CPR 9) Does anyone have a solution?

Does PT4601_I in rung 3 waits for rung 2 to complete inorder to consider updated value of PT4601_I or it consider PT4601_I default value and runs simultaneously with rung 2 ? Thank you in advacne
