  5. Network Dropouts at Night!

We have been having a re-occurring issue where some of our PLC's throughout our plant have a network outage that occurs around the same time every night. The PLC's are disbursed among the plant and it has been confirmed no large pieces of equipment are being turned on around this time every night... The network traffic does not fluctuate around this time and is not near a "troubling" level. There was a reboot to one of our servers on the same VLAN as the PLC's that are having the connectivity issues... What could have changed from a server reboot to remedy this issue, the server is not communicating to the PLC's, they are just on the same VLAN.

  7. PLC Not fast enough?

Hello, I used a Schneider Electric SR3B261B PLC to create a trivia machine (as I call it).  Basically 20 buttons that let contestants ring in to trivia.  There is a display that shows the number of the person who rang in.  It works pretty well unless people press the buttons at exactly the same time.  Then it shows 2 results at the same time.  Usually resulting in a display of 18 when really it was 12 and 14 that rang in, for example. The PLC has options for: "Adjustment of the basic cycle time of the module."   and "Type of Hardware Input Filtering." Which I assume would make the PLC operate faster and avoid two inputs triggering at the same time.  If I change the setting and update the changes do not keep.  I appear unable to change it past 20 x2 ms  and slow (3ms). Is that a correct assumption that changing this would fix it? Why can I not change this?  Is it because I have so many inputs (14 or so) and Outputs (16 or so)? or because my program uses nearly all 240 lines of ladder logic allowed? What can I do to fix this?   Emerald
  8. Allen Bradley 1764-24BWA Series B

Hi everybody. I am looking for the schematic diagram of the power supply for the Allen Bradley 1764-24BWA series B. I did extensive search on google but could not find anything useful (only user manual of replacement parts). Thanks in advance. Cheers.
  9. B&R Power Panel 100 calibration

Good day! Please tell me the options for calibrating the touchscreen of the B & R Power Panel 100 4PP120.1043-31 Rev.K0 without BIOS. After the damage, the touch screen managed to calibrate. After replacing the touchscreen with a new serviceable one, it is impossible to "push" the buttons - you need to start above the button, off-screen. There is no project source. A faulty touchscreen also fails to do a calibration. Can I reset the default calibration settings? Where is the calibration table stored? Is there a way to immediately call calibration after power on? I would be very grateful for any ideas!
  10. SLC-500 Power Supply Short?

Anyone have experience with the old SLC-500s? I have one machine that is about 13 years old and I think they used a new old stock SLC-05/04 when they built it. Anyway I had a battery error, which makes sense since the battery was very old, and I lost my program when I tried to replace it, which makes sense because the capacitor which is supposed to hold the charge is very old. When I tried to re-download the program to the PLC, I could not connect, I realized my issue now was no null modem... and my driver not working on my RS-232 to USB converter. My question is:  What is the port above the DB-9 port used for? It was labeled PROG, so when my DB-9 serial cable didn't work I tried a serial cable for a mitsubishi FX series on the top port... and.... my power supply died. Is this a common thing on SLC-500 power supplies? Can you short them by using the wrong cable? The weird thing is the fuse on the front was not blown. Is there a fuse inside I can get to and replace? We are planning on just keeping this machine a few more years so we don't want to upgrade it. The CPU was fine afterwards.
  11. 1734 IA4 confusion

Hello All, I will first state that I am very new to the world of PLC's. I do the control drawings where I work. I'm trying to figure out the 1734 Point IO, specifically the 1734-IA4. The manual states "Module power is supplied from the internal power bus". Does this mean I do not need to run ANY power wires to the modules? The installation manual shows points 4,5,6 and 7 as "L1" wires?? The system I am designing, from left to right has the following: 1794-PS13, 1734-AENT, 1734-FPD, Followed by Qty. 11 1734-IA4's. I'm bringing 120VAC and 24VDC to the 1794-PS13. From the 120VAC terminals, I run wires to the FPD. From the 24VDC terminals, I run wires to the 1734-AENT. On the first 1734-IA4, I would think I should bring any power there, because its already back plane fed...….correct? Or DO I run power wires there? Thanks in advance
  12. Please assist me with the following; regarding the ME96SSHA-MB Power meter data transition with Melsec-Q series PLC; We acquire to read various values on dedicated Modbus storage address registers at the simultaneous into a Melsec-Q series PLC via Modbus (TCP or RTU)  for calculation purposes. Naturally, since the reading of these variables are to provide accurate instantaneous results, it is a requirement that these values are to be read at one scan.   However, as can be seen below, there is a gap in address register range – of which, if all of these are scanned simultaneously, yields an exception error when read. This error is only avoided by scanning these data sets separately – which is not ideal for our application – since accuracy in calculations is imperative.

  14. Omron cp1e power indicator turns off

The plc runs for a minute and then the power turns off while the supply voltage is ok. I was sure that it is for the power circuit problem inside the plc. As I had a spare power circuit of cp1h and I checked it had same voltages output (5vdc, 24vdc & 0), I replaced it. Now I cannot connect it with my laptop to change to run operating mode. Could anyone help me?
  15. I got denied on a job interview, there might have been a few things but I think not knowing NEC and lack of experience with three phase hurt me. The NEC stuff is for another thread but how do you get experience with three phase? Unless you're in a shop already 3ph can be tricky to find. We talked about it at school in multiple classes but never anything hands on. Yet the descriptions for these entry level jobs all expect you to have a few years in of working with 3ph. It looks like I can make my own three phase from 120VAC with a small VFD. Maybe find some small 3ph motor at the scrap yard, get a new contactor and practice taking measurements/hooking stuff up. I've no problem building a trainer if I get to study up on 3ph and NEC at the same time. Crazy? Any advice?

  18. Daisy chaining power to Armorblocks

Hey guys, I'm trying to power about 31 armor blocks in a daisy-chain. I'm running my power off a panel to a junction box and then drawing cables to Taps and dropping a cable to each Armorblock. I'm using 1732E-8x8M12DRs and 1732E-IB16M12Rs, which have 4-pin mini male ports for power.  1. Are there 4-pin mini cables (18AWG) Taps so I can power the entire system using 18AWG cables? 2. Is it safe to gave 22AWG micro cables and M12 taps and draw out a 4-pin mini cable drop to my armorblocks? 3. What in your opinion would be the best way to daisy chain power to these modules? Thanks!
  19. Cycle Timer

Hi all, I try to realize a cycle timer. A counter is triggered by a movement ( clamp close ) Then the machine does it things, piston here, and there and when the clamp closes again it should show me the real cycle time. Is there a timer/counter that is independent from the PLC cycle? I am using a CJ1M CPU11 Ver. 3.0
  20. I would like to use the actual Cycle Time (in seconds) of the NJ101 CPU in a Structured Text  math equation.  You might also call it the Task Period... However it's called, It needs to be the amount of time that has elapsed from the last calculation of the ST math equation.  It must be a variable that also satisfies this looping equation: Time:= Time +cycle time .. so that the master equation, which is calculating position information, based on TIME .. is up to date with each calculation in the loop. How do I insert that cycle-time, which might not be identical for each loop, (or, is it) ?  Thanks, Regards, Michael
  21. Hello, I got a new work job to design a cycle tester for a mechanism to make sure will work for at least 5000 cycles open - close. I never made a pls program I start researching few days ago and seams to be very complicate to make it. I have a TM221C16R PLC from Schneider. please help me with some instructions. the cycle tester will have a start pushbutton, stop pushbutton, door open switch, one air cylinder with solenoid to push and pull and a counter. Thank you, Romica
  22. Hi, I am a beginner to PLC. I am currently working on a home project with Allen Bradley 1100 model. The project is to build a door open-shut cycle tester.  The motor I have purchased is a Bodine Brushless DC34B/FV INTEGRAmotor. My goal is to utilize the Allen Bradley to to control the motor and then the motor drive a shaft to open/shut the door. Through the LCD screen the of PLC, we can set and view the amount of cycles.  I have finished the initial stage of wiring. But not sure how should I start on the programming part. Could any of you give me any hints on the programming portion? Thank you so much.

  24. Hi, I'm using FWRIT to log data and want to know if it's possible to detect power failure to not write to the CF memcard? You can extend the power OFF up to 10ms or use the power off interrupt. Does anyone make experience with that?
