  1. I'm a young Controls Engineer at an integration company, and I need assistance.   I have a client that has about 330 different alphanumeric product numbers broken down by length and width. The operator must be able to select the product number at the HMI to pass along to the robot we are integrating. Is there a way to be able to have the operator select the product number simply, without having to scroll over 300 items in a single control list. The HMI is not chosen yet, so it can be GE, Rockwell/AB, or Automation Direct, but we are using a AB ControlLogix Processor. Racking my brain and I have little VBA/Scripting experience.

I am having a very weird issue that Rockwell was not able to help with.  I have a new SE application that I converted from RSView32 and I re-wrote some VBA code associated with the project.  The code works fine on the server while the screen is running in studio.  Once I deploy a Client it no longer works.  It just sits there like its waiting for my trigger to go off, but I am seeing it sit there with a 1 so i know it should be executing the code because as soon as i open the screen in studio and press play the code executes and my data is there.  Does anyone have any ideas for me?   Thanks
  3. Dear Experts!!! I am facing one problem in ALARMs configured in SCADA ( FT View SE v8.0) There are some unnecessary alarms like "acknowledgement status" are coming. Alarm bad quality alarms are coming all the time, I dont have any clue about them. Please help!!!

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but my search hasn't revealed anything yet.  I have a number of PanelView graphics created with FactoryTalk View ME and some use a lot of Parameter Files, which link to popup faceplates. So a large number tags are represented with parameter files, which, when clicked on screen, then pop-up an appropriate faceplate, based on tag type or category etc.  I am still digging into the very elaborate FT View ME manual, but at 500 pages, that's quite a deep study.  But I don't see the linkage between the tag's parameter file and how it specifies which faceplate to pop up, and I've not yet found a good article other than keep digging into that FT manual. There does not appear to be a linkage entry in the parameter file itself, where I would have expected it.  Nor do I see any "hot spot" click type event code in the display itself, which would also make sense.  Is it in the PLC code itself?  I would not have expected that, since they seem to be keeping the FT environment self-contained. But there must be some sort of table or linkage somewhere that I'm over looking. Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts & guidance on this.  Other parts of FT HMI screen development does seem intuitive, just not this dynamic linking.

  5. GX Developer/FX2 Problems

    Good Morning Everyone I have a problem that I do hope someone can help me with. My work laptop is used only for PLC and VSD(Vfd) configuration. It is an aging Lenovo running windows XP and it has GX Developer, GX IEC and a few of the Mitsi configurator tools and Mitsi FX configurator for VSDs. I bought a couple of new VSDs and got a copy of the new FX2 for configuration of the VSDs. I installed the FX2, used it configure 2 VSDs and that was it. Yesterday I tried to use the GX Developer to make a few changes to one of our A series PLCs and could not get it to load. On loading, the first windows info block says "System Stop Failed. Please restart Windows" if I click the OK button the next info block states "Operation Ended Incorrectly. Restart the application" If I click on the OK button it appears to load, however when one selects the Project to open it crashes and comes up with another info block " Gppw.exe has encountered a problem and needs to Close." As we were a little under the pump to get the changes made yesterday I did unistall the FX2 program, this did not fix the problem. If anyone could shed some light on a fix for this I would appreceiate it. Thanks in advance.

    I was wondering if anybody out there has ever made a generic popup to deal with multiple devices, similar to what you can do with factory talk and wonderware. I want to be able to index addresses from the PLC to the PT memory but it doesn't look like you are able to do this. Is there anybody out there that has come across this same problem?

Hello, I have a .PBW file in an obsolete PanelView that I need to troubleshoot, but I can't open it.  Called AB TechConnect for support, but tech said it was too archaic and he, essentially, needed to start with a Windows98 machine and PanelBuilder 32 to even begin.  FactoryTalk doesn't know what to do with it.  File is attached.  Any suggestions/assistance is much appreciated ABWWTP.PBW

Hi all, Does anybody have experienced problem with communication while connecting  32k and 16k plcs to same SCADA via factory talk linx?   Does anybody have got problem with communication while RSView32 and FTView were used simultaneously with same plcs in different pcs with different shortcut names?
  10. Hi guys, So, I'm having an issue installing GX Developer on a 64-bit Windows 10 Laptop, the primary installer opens, at 99%, then disappears and the process eventually dies, I've exhausted all available compatibility options, does anyone have any advice?

Good day to all, I am trying to establish DDE communication between my PLC (1769-L23ER) and MS Access via RSLinx Classic Gateway (3.9) over Windows Server 2012 R2.  On my developing PC (Windows 7), there isn't any issue at all. But when I port the codes over to Windows Server 2012 R2, MS Access is not able to establish DDE communications with the PLC.  I was wondering what went wrong. The error message from MS Access is "MS Access can't find the specified application and topic because it can't open the DDE channel, err.Number is 282. The code for getting the channel is as follow OpenRSLinx = Application.DDEInitiate("RSLinx","PLC-D") I was wondering was there anything I have miss out. eg. Configuration of the server, path settings, etc.. Any help is welcome. TIA Cheers CY
  12.   Hi all, Iam currently working with a migration project from Rsview32 to FTView. I was able to convert the RSView32 SCADA to FTView successfully. Current scenario is like RSView32 (which was the existing pcs) SCADA is running in two stand alone PCs and Iam trying to line up the new Factory talk view SCADA in another system.Communication is taken from same ethernet switch to which all ethernet cables from 5PLCs in the field are terminated and from which RSView32 scada has taken itz communication. PLCs used there are 2 No.of  1747 L532E slc 5/03 OS302 Ser c Frn 10 & later and 3 Nos of 1747 L533E slc 5/03 OS302 aer c Frn 10 & later. communication taken via net eni (1761 NetEni) Ftview installed system is Windows 10 pro OS) Issue is while RSView32 scada is working properly, Factory talk view is not getting neither online tags nor able to play display for those linked with L533E processor.But everything is fine with L532E processor. I just tried with downloading L533E program to L532E processor and everything was getting. So am i missing something or what should i do to get proper communication with L533E processor.   plz help..Iam a beginner in this field.
  13. Good day, I would like to extract the FT View SE Alarm Log. We currently have got a Excel spreadsheet set up with a connection to the FTAE SQL Database.  When I refresh the data, Excel give an error telling me that the data is more than what can be displayed in a spreadsheet. So it then discards the latest data. I have tried setting a database limit in the Factory Talk Administration console to only keep the last 60 days worth of data but it does not seem to take effect. I get data from January 2017 up to 15 October 2018. Is there a way to configure the ODBC connection in excel to only give me the data for the last 30 days or is there someone that can help me to limit the size of the database? I have attached the current connection config.

  18. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit running on VMware virtual machine. Installed software: Studio 5000 V21.0 Licence: Concurrent (served by licence server on another PC). On starting Setup.exe from the VM's desktop I get the message     "Studio 5000 does not support this version of windows" Any ideas how to proceed?

    Hello all, I am using a g10 graphite series HMI from Red Lion. I am trying to figure out a way to have the device use the operators windows logon by calling up the windows security services. Basically a user would have to log on to the HMI with his windows credentials to be able to do anything. I vaguely remember being able to set this up in FT, but FT seems to have a lot more features than the crimson software. Thoughts? Ideas? thanks guys.

We have an auto-clave unit purchased at auction roughly 4 years ago.   CompactLogix L32e and PanelView Plus 1000.  All has been working for us until last week.  Suddenly, the program seems to freeze up after around 30 seconds.  I can still touch the panelview and the touches are registered, (the mouse icon moves) but the program does not respond and I can tell the program is frozen because the clock which displays seconds stops counting. When i boot into safe mode (clicking white box on boot) the system does not seem to freeze at all.  I am able to navigate those menus w/o issue.  We don't have any of the software to connect to the PLC.  I understand this is a somewhat broad issue, but does anyone have any idease where i can start in troubleshooting this? or is their any further info i can provide which would be helpful?

I got into a project were they have 20 panelviews plus 1500 around the building, and they want to be able to serrate the displays accessible by the users based on the physical location of the panelview, for example Room1 should not see room2 but can see room3, at this moment we have a complete application with all the screens that have been downloaded to all panelviews, in order to avoid maintain 20 different ME applications I would like to ask if any of you had this problem before or any ideas on how to go forward with it.   Thanks

Dear All, In one of my projects I need to login in HMI via Windows Linked Users i.e. Domain Users..I have never done this before & don't I have any sort of idea regarding this..This is possible in Rockwell HMI's but not sure about Beijer IX HMI's..   23. Hello, Does anyone have experience with getting online a NJ/NX via USB with Sysmac Studio running on windows 10? At Omrons website it says Sysmac Studio offers windows 10 support from version 1.15 but I can't find drivers anywhere. Have checked in the communication middleware folder as you can see in the attached picture.  https://www.myomron.com/index.php?action=kb&article=1580 I have Sysmac Studio 1.20.1.0 running on Windows 10 Professional. Its not a big problem for me right now, because I can always connect via Ethernet, but if the driver exist I would appreciate having it.  
  24. Hey, this is probably a stupid question, but how do I delete old FactoryTalk View Programs. They are the ones that I have uploaded from a PanelView Plus via the "Transfer Utility" and then restored runtime using the "Application Manager". I open up FactoryTalk View Studio and I can see a list of all the runtime applications or I can create a new one. My question is, where are these applications stored by default? I have a bunch of old ones and test programs that I want to delete that are just cluttering up my list. I attached a screenshot to show you exactly what I'm talking about.   25. i'm working with vijeo designer and i have a problem with popup windows. I'm trying to make a popup window appear with a variable. A bool to be exact. I want that a popup window appears when the bool becomes 1. But so far i haven't found a way to do that. Can someone help how I could do that? It's the meaning that that bool becomes 1 when there is an error and that the popup window appears then to let the user know there is an error. Or does annyone have a better idea?
