  1. Hello, I am new to the forum. Being doing a lot of googling to see if theirs any cross-compatibility between an M241 PLC and a Simatic panel PC and stumbled across this forum which hopefully could help me out. I'm starting an automation project to automate my home brewery. The M241 from Schneider electric seems to tick the boxes for what I require.  At my work theirs a redundant Simatic Panel PC 670 just waiting to be recycled. My question is, can I use the panel pc purely as an HMI for the M241?
  2. Hey, this is probably a stupid question, but how do I delete old FactoryTalk View Programs. They are the ones that I have uploaded from a PanelView Plus via the "Transfer Utility" and then restored runtime using the "Application Manager". I open up FactoryTalk View Studio and I can see a list of all the runtime applications or I can create a new one. My question is, where are these applications stored by default? I have a bunch of old ones and test programs that I want to delete that are just cluttering up my list. I attached a screenshot to show you exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks, I'm sure this is a pretty easy/ dumb question. Howard
  3. Is there a possiblity to retrive password from mer file? I wanted to restore mer to runtime with local directory and its asking me for password that i don't have.  Could some one help?
  4. I'm making this thread, continuing from my previous one (Newbie Screwed Up) where I received tremendous help from those on this forum.    I now have the AB 5/04 working, but the Panel Mate 1700 doesn't seem to communicate with the 504.  The HMI connected to this brick is a Cutler Hammer Panel Mate Pro 1700.  It lights up,  the touch-screen buttons somewhat react to touching (might take a few strokes to react), but the functions do not react with the 5/04.  I called the equipment manufacturer, and they basically said it is all obsolete equipment, no longer supported, etc. and we are SOL. But, for a mere $100K, we can send the unit back, and they'll install all "modern" control units !! Not an option.   I get it that the unit is 10+ years old, but has very low cycle times on it.  (maybe 400 hrs)   It's my understanding that the  HMIs are just that....a means of the operators telling the PLC what you want it to do. So, my question .... is there an off the shelf software package that would emulate the Panel Mate 1700?  All I need to "control"  is to advance or retard two sets of heat seal rollers (via PacSci stepper motors), actuate two separate hole punch solenoids, and an air solenoid for a knife....it's basically a packaging machine.  I do have a program called PMConfig , but I don't see any communications buttons or icons in that software, just screen shots of what shows up on the HMI, icon selection, change fonts / colors, etc.  So, I'm looking for a resolution to make new(er) HMI (or even just a cheap a$$ laptop)  with affordable software, and easy interface to communicate with the now functioning 5/04.  Thanks for the input.
  5. Hello I downloaded a .mer file on the Panel view 1000 but it shows errors on the display graphics. i have configured the Rslinx communication several times by selecting the rigt PLC in Design and Runtime mode. I am using Facotry Talk view 8.20 and creating 5.10 runtime file. Please advice. I was able to correctly download and use the HMI on a similar machine. I dont know what am I missing on this one.    Thanks Pratik Jain
  6. Indirect Addressing NA Terminal

Hi. ¿Is there a way to use indirect addressing on a NA Panel?  I need to use a motor operation template for several motors and i think is not very smart doing the same panel over and over. I have always created a screen and then reused it (on FactoryTalk View, Intouch, Schneider Vijeo) The problem is that we don't find any article about indirect addressing on NA panels. So we dont know how to do it. On CXDesigner we used DM addressing so we could use a template instead of creating many button panels when we need to operate a motor, for example. Its like when you use indirect tags on Intouch or Parameter files on FTV. I fear that indirect Addressing is not possible, but in that case ¿Which method do you recommend? ¿Got an example or an article mentioning it? Thanks in advance.
  7. I am using FactoryTalk View Studio SE 8.20 to develop SCADA Application, and whenever I tried to open Tag Database it shows error "an error occurred while attempting to open the tag database editor" and not able to Open Tag database. Does anyone know solution for this? Error Screenshot Attached
  8. Hello all, I am still fairly new to this forum and PLC's in general. I am trying to connect a EA9 touch panel via Ethernet to an Allen Bradley Micro Logix 1400 PLC. I am using Ethernet over serial because I need the serial connection to program while using the touch panel. I have given the Panel the IP Address 192.168.1.20 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and I have given the PLC the IP address 192.168.1.10 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The panel is not communicating with the PLC and I have very little knowledge on the subject, anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. The picture on the top is from the PLC and the picture on the bottom is from the C-More program for the panel.

  10. Hello I have a panel view 550 communicating with a micrologix 1500 LRP works normally, I need to change some alarm messages in it, but when I try to upload to the PC I can not. I have no experience with panelview, I have a UIC 1747 and I can see the view panel via RSlinx AB_UIC-1 DH485 STA: 0 COM 5. But when I use panelbuilder 32 to upload only the error. Can anybody help me.
  11. Thanks for your time.  We have purchased from auction a Getinge Autoclave (sterilizer) with Allen-Bradley controls (CompactLogix L32E).  The machine has a PanelView Plus 1000 installed.  A CD came with the machine w/ the following files.. HMI Project - (.apa file) Runtime (.mer file) Their is also a compact flash card installed in the CompactLogix L32E.  On the Panel View, their is an external Compact Flash slot, but no card, and on the inside of the panel view (if i remove the back cover) their is a compact flash card slot with a card installed.  I haven't checked what is on either of those cards yet.. We cannot get the program to load on the panel view. When the machine is powered on, the panel view goes through a quick dos setup screen and then the screen turns blue and we are stuck with an hour glass icon.  The icon will move depending upon where you touch on the screen.  I can boot the panel view in safe mode (by hitting the default button, then reset) at which point I get a message stating that the machines files may be corrupted and leaves me the options to Download new Firmware, or Continue.  Hitting Continue nothing happens, and choosing Download gives me Ethernet, or Serial options.  The Panel View is connected to the PLC via ethernet so I choose this option and it  gets stuck at this point. We do not want to make any changes to the program, but just to get it to run on the machine.  We do not have ANY of the software. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Craig
  12. Please if anyone can help me, recently I installed a redundancy in my Factory View V8.20 server, but started to show some errors: My alarm banner and event simply disappeared and now I can not read tag from my opc server (KeepServer Modbus), I see this tag in the studio, but at runtime they do not communicate. * Patches are up date. Tks! Vitor
  13. Beckhoff Control panel testing?

I am a technician at a large repair facility and we often have Beckhoff control panel displays come in for repair. I'm having trouble using Twincat to set up the buttons on a CPxx to test the buttons and assignable leds. We have a PC running windows XP with the twincat software, a CP9035 pci card to connect the CP to the pc, i can see the PC's display on the CP and also recognize the CP in twincat, just unsure how to map testable functions to the keys on the CP. Hope this all makes sense. Hopefully there is a Twincat guru out there that knows how to do this. Thank you!!
  14. Ground Loop

Hello everyone, I have a quick question regarding Din rails, chassis ground and ground loops. Here is where I am getting confused. I connect my back panel to earth ground which, connects my control panel chassis to earth ground. I screw din rails on my back panel. Question #1: logically, my din rails are now connected to earth ground through the screws connecting to din rails to the back panel. Am I wrong here? As I have seen in many control panels, I connect a ground terminal block to my din rail and connect it to earth ground (the terminal block couples with the din rail through metal clamps). I now use that ground terminal block as a single point source to ground all my other components in the control panel (I connect my ground terminal block to earth ground using a wire).. *** the ten thousand dollar question is Didnt I just create a ground loop between my ground terminal block mounted on the din rail and my back panel chassis ground. For one reason or another the two different location might be at slightly different potentials causing current to flow. Where is my logic off here???? Thank you

  16. Would someone please help me how to convert an integer to ascii?   For example if the output tag is an ascii string, of 3 characters and my numeric input is integer.   When user input a value of 5, I would like the input value to be convert and assign to output ascii string tag of "005".  How do I set the conversion format in either tag assignment or tag expression?
  17. Expressions

Hi forum members!   I am spinning the wheels on trying to get my expression to validate.  I am new to expressions so after trying for a bit I have thrown in the towel and am looking to the experts here to help me out. As you can see with attachment I am trying to change the color of the valve top hat.  I am needing 3 colors: Gray when closed, Green when open and in Auto, and Yellow when open and in Manual. I was asked to not change the PLC logic as this could be done from the SCADA level.. After looking at my application and attempt do you have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?    My Expression:  If {::[Process]Program:Boilers_Main.LV_36101_New} < 3  Then 0  Else  If {::[Process]Program:Boilers_Main.LV_36101_New} >= 3  AND {[Process]LIC_36101A_PIDE.Auto}  Then 1  Else  Then  If {[Process]LIC_36101A_PIDE.manual}  Then 2
  18. Hi all I am setting up a batch tank system, I have 1 pump which can pump to six different tanks(via pneumatic actuated valves). This is my first go with a HMI, usually I would use a multiple position switch. Is it possible to make a six position selector switch with a HMI? I am using a AB Panel-View 800, has anyone done this before? Any help would be appreciated.
  19. I have this panel view 1000 plus with accounts enabled but customer forgot the app password. I have both the executable and source file. Can I retrieve the password from any of both files? Can accessing configuration mode help disabling security to enter new passwords? Having the files, what is the best way of retake control over this application?    I am not experienced on AB equipment, but have general experience on automation. I have access to Factory Talk View.
  20. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows why we cant change the date on an application using the system tags? I was able to use the system tags for time and that works fine. however, year, day and month are giving me a write error. (Basically made a screen for the user to change the datae/time instead of going through the terminal settings. Using RS500 controller: Micrologix 1400 HMI: PV+700 Factory talk studio ME.

Hey,  How to calculate sizing of vacuum circuit breaker ???
  24. I hope I am posting this in the right location, I did not see any sub forums specific to Rockwell or Factorytalk. We are finally converting from XP to Windows 7! WOO-Hoo! It has gone fairly well but I see one issue that has me concerned and I would like to resolve it now; my application converted fine except my translations did not come across. We have two base applications we build off of that correspond to the type of machine they are used for; both support multiple languages which are selectable with an on screen VBA based button that does a bit and language change in the background. One application supports English and Russian while the other is English and Spanish. I have tried doing the import on Windows 7 in both languages related to the application I am working with and the alternate language (in this case it is Russian) never comes across. I have tried both the direct copy and .apa methods with the conversion and the results are the same. Is there a step I am missing during the conversion process or will I have to export my languages from 6.0 and import them to 8.0 separately after conversion? I am not thrilled about this process as it never seems to keep the proper layout of the text when imported. I assume the issue is the conversion process as I can load the .apa on a fresh XP build and the languages are both present.
