  1. Hey everyone, I'm new to programming PLCs and I've run into a problem. I have a Micrologix 1400 Series B PLC, and for the past month, I've been using a free trial of RSLogix 500 Starter. But now, the trial ran out, and so I bought a license for "RSLogix Micro Starter". The problem is that when I downloaded my updated file to the PLC for the first time with micro starter, the PLC's outputs don't work anymore. I checked the PLC screen and the inputs from the HMI screen are getting recognized, but the inputs from the physical sensors are not. Also, none of the outputs are being activated on the PLC at all, which I can tell by looking at the I/O status on the PLC screen itself. I then uploaded a new test program, where you press a button and a light turns on, but that doesn't work either. I haven't changed any of the physical wiring, only thing I've changed is that I'm using RSLogix Micro Starter as opposed to RSLogix 500 Starter. I spoke to a Rockwell technician about this and he said that there shouldn't be any problem, as I haven't done anything wrong. So I now ask everyone on this forum if they could help me out a bit.
  2.  I am very green at this and learning online as I have purchased a brand new Micrologix 1400 1766L32BXBA. I am pulling my hair out as I cannot even power an LED or for that matter get any 24 volt reading from the outputs via program. I have even forced them on so shouldnt I be able to see something? I am connected via Ethernet ,Rslinx in concert with using Micro starter software (not lite) and the unit does not show any faults and is in the run mode. I can see the bits forced on the software and on the unit's LCD screen in I/O status. Is there a way to trouble shoot if the unit is bad or I am overlooking something incredibly simple. I do not have any floating inputs or outputs with the common from the power supply and the unit is properly grounded all nice and tidy on a din rail. Like I said I am very new at this so I am sorry if this is a bad question.
  3. I have 23 Micrologix 1400s and I want to take the same register, N100:99, out of each one and put in a single array in a CompactLogix L18ER. From what I have tried, it only seems like I can only map a range of integers, N100:77-N100:100, to the array and not an individual register to a particular element. (For example, mapping N100:99 from machine 16 to Selected_Model[15]) Can you map to individual elements in an array? If so, are there any instructions on how to do so? Thank you in advance for reading my post!
  4. Good day everyone, First post here so hopefully I'm not violating community guidelines in anyway. I've got a system that has some 50 odd Micrologix 1100 and 1400 in use and I'm currently working on setting up an auto timesync for all of them using just 1 of the PLCs that will be my master time PLC. So far I've put together the logic for all the message instructions with the corresponding IP of the slave devices. I'm running. Into an issue with not being able to terminate/break the message connection on a PLC that I have already synced. Is this even possible to do on the ML1100. Once I get to 16-17 messages DN it starts to ER and will not complete any further messages. What I have is a message instruction ladder with a timed trigger to activate a MSG and write the RTC data then time down and connect and write to the next and so on. When it triggers the message instruction of one PLC it also fires an OTE to trigger the BK of the previous message instruction. However it doesn't seem to be actually cutting the message connection and holds it persistent until a power cycle/download event.
  5. I am trying to communicate power flex 523 drives to micrologix 1400 directly through DSI using 1763-nc01 cable. I have considered channel 0 in plc as modbus RTU master and trying to connect but not connecting. So am i doing it correctly. Any suggestions?
  6. Hi: I am trying to determine if I should use the RS 5000 or RS 500 to start a micrologix 1400 project that will include a Maple Systems HMI. I have never used the RS 5000 software so I am aware there will be a learning curve, however I am certain that it could be useful in the future.  However, my work schedule is nights so I am limited in how much tech support I will get here at my facility when no one is using RS 5000 here at this time? Your input and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. I'm trying to connect a SMC EX-260 to a Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC so  I can run some valves with it. However, RsLogix 500 doesn't allow me to just setup a generic ethernet device like I would on RsLogix 5000. Is there a way I can communicate these devices together so I can use the SMC Valve system with my Micrologix?
  8. Hello all, this is my first post. I am using an AB Micrologix 1400 (1766-L32BXB Ser C FW 21). I was trying to generate a pulse train using the PTO instruction. I have modified PTOX funct. file. The ladder is just a simple XIO followed by PTO, (The Quick Start ladder from 1766-RM001). When I looked at the output waveform on my oscilloscope, I noticed that it wasn't a square wave. I decided to run it at several different frequencies to see how the wave form would change. At 10Hz i got a square wave. As I increased the frequency the falling edge became sloped and almost horizontal. Is this how the output should behave? The data sheet indicates a max frequency of 100kHz, but at frequencies over 150 Hz. The wave form looks like the output of SMPS.
  9. Hi, got a mental block lol.  Got a machine we are modifying, currently got most of the code in place. Working on a fault routine now. This machine doesn't have an HMI or wide array of PL. Nothing major just a simple vision system check. Currently have 6 faults that will stop the cycle running. I'm wanting to have the beacon light (Red light) blink for the cause of the fault. For example: Scenario 1- Fault stop for bottle check NG:  (two) .5 sec blinks -  2 sec red light off -  (two) .5 sec blinks ..... repeat  Scenario 2- Fault stop for bottle check NG and reject sensor blocked:  (two) .5 sec blinks -2 sec red light off - (three) .5 sec blinks - 2 sec red light off....... repeat I have the code a few different ways but it looks "dirty". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
  10. My project is to read an RFID tag (ascii) with a Micrologix 1400, send the string to a PC using Ethernet/IP, lookup and compare in an Excel spreadsheet, and send back data (probably an integer) for the plc to use to control direction. I have to scan and compare an RFID tag to a list of 1400 possible part numbers, at different locations (more than 1 plc). I want the several PLCs to go to a single PC to make it easy to update when changes occur (on a weekly basis). Has anyone done anything like this? I'm assuming there will have to be some kind of vb or c+ application involved.   Thanks,  CK
  11. Hello,  please i wish to simulate HSC in Allen Bradley 1400 using a square wave generator. i have built and tested the square wave generator it works well, the issue is how to wire it to Allen Bradley 1400. also i wish to understand IO Configuration filter settings, am using Allen Bradley 1400 B series Processor  Thanks  Square wave generator simulating with AB 1400 for HSC.pdf
  12. Hello, I'm new to PLC Programming, with just a simple course about the basics. I've got a micrologix 1400 PLC which seems to have had its program wiped when the battery was replaced. I've had the company that supplied the machine it runs send me the program for the PLC. However, I don't have any software to communicate with it, and download the program to the PLC. I was hoping some one here could help me out and direct me towards what I will need to do to get the new program installed on the PLC. Thank you
  13. Hi my problem may have a simple solution but i cant work it out. I need to use the Divide function but it wont let me use a decimal point in either Source A or Source B. Is there a way to use a decimal point in Logix 500 Math instructions? Im using an AB Micrologix 1400 PLC. Can you only use math instructions with whole numbers? is there a way around this? Thanks James

  15. Hello,  I have a micrologix 1400 plc connected to a length measurement gauge. The gauge sends an analog value to the plc to an analog input. I convert the value into a dimension and send it to F8:0. but I need this value in three different steps in the program. Since i just have one element of float (F8:0) is there anyway i can store the value in a different location or create more floating point tags eg. F8:1. F8:2 ?    Thank You
  16. Dear Sir, Kindly Tell me how to use encoder with micrologix 1400. Thanks
  17. Hello,  As the title indicates, we have a micrologix 1400 that has been installed for a long time.  Recently it faulted out on 71h and was in Remote Mode.  Do these PLCs revert to Remote Mode when in a fault condition?  We placed it back in Run Mode and everything worked fine, but how did it get to Remote Mode in the first place? Thanks,  J
  18. Hello all, I am still fairly new to this forum and PLC's in general. I am trying to connect a EA9 touch panel via Ethernet to an Allen Bradley Micro Logix 1400 PLC. I am using Ethernet over serial because I need the serial connection to program while using the touch panel. I have given the Panel the IP Address 192.168.1.20 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and I have given the PLC the IP address 192.168.1.10 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The panel is not communicating with the PLC and I have very little knowledge on the subject, anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. The picture on the top is from the PLC and the picture on the bottom is from the C-More program for the panel.
  19. I'm designing a PLC system in which a Micrologix 1400 talks Modbus TCP/IP with three Modbus TCP-capable SCR controllers. I've never done Ethernet/Modbus TCP communication using the 1400, so I'm asking the following questions: 1. Can I connect the 1400 PLC and the three devices to an Ethernet switch and configure Modbus TCP communication from the devices to the PLC (data collection only) ? The switch will also be connected to the customer's DCS, receiving the data from the PLC and the three devices. 2. Can I connect the Ethernet port on the1400 PLC to the Ethernet switch directly, or do I need some kind of Ethernet interface, like the 1761-NET-ENI ? 3. The system also includes an HMI, connected to the 1400 PLC by RS-232 communication. Any issues with communicating with the HMI and doing Modbus at the same time? Your help in this matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Ron
  20. Hi everyone, I have a Micrologix 1400 that went out over the weekend.  First thing that happened was a contact went out on it forcing us to move the wire and change the program to a different location, but then the next day it provided full voltage to a solenoid even when it was supposed to cut out via timer.  We switched the processor out, but now I want to find out why it went bad, and if there is something I can do to make the next one last longer.  I don't have techconnect through AB (That I know of), so how and where do I send my processor out to get a post-mortem analysis on it?
  21. As I am a noob this is probably a noob question. I have a machine with a micro 1400 and if the machine has a fault or jams it lights it's "machine fault" lamp. The fault can be triggered by one of 8 prox switches not getting made within a certain time span. There is nothing to indicate which one. I'd like to program the lamp to, rather than stay on steady, have a blink pattern to indicate which prox caused the fault condition. 3 blinks and a pause, then repeat for PROX 3 for example. I have searched for this with no joy. Thanks - Jon
  22. Hi, everyone, I started learning very recently, and I have been writing this little program in which I communicate through RS-232 with a machine. Every time I send a command from the PLC I wait a couple milliseconds for the machine to send a response (a response must always exist, even if it's a mere acknowledgement response), then I save the response that the machine has sent. I organized my ladder logic by the commands that the PLC has to send to the machine (4 commands total, for example: execute this, give me status on that, etc). I started every ladder with an OSR and an AWA instruction, and when AWA is done I have a timer in the next rung to wait for the machine response, and after timer I have a ABL activated when TON is done. The Ladders are related in the sense that the end of each LAD contains a JSR instruction to the next command/ladder. So the commands/ladder always execute in a predefined sequence (LAD2 -> LAD3 -> LAD4 -> LAD5). The logic inside each ladder is like this (the last rung is a little different for the others, this is LAD2): ] start [ ----------------------------------------- [ OSR ] ] OSR OUTPUT BIT [ -------------------- [ AWA ] ] AWA/DN [ ---------------------------------- [ TON ] ] TON/DN [ ----------------------------------- [ ABL ] ] ABL/FD [ ------------------------------------ [ ARL ] ] test if ARL string is 0 [ ----------------[ JSR ] 1) Since I have to use timers so often in my program (they all last for the same period of time) I wonder if I could use the same timer every time (same Control File R6). But I'm quite lost on WHEN I would have to reset the timer, or if this would not be recommended at all, since the timer is still counting for more than one scan. Although I want to believe that the timer for that Ladder would never be counting after the JSR instruction, I think this is true only for the first time since the next time I turn "start" ON the ARL is not zero, so JSR would occur while the timer is still counting. I tried resetting my timer parallel to JSR and using the same timer in the next ladder, but then the timer only counted up for the first time "start" goes ON (I believe because the timer was constantly being reset at every scan). 2) Also using OSR with AWA was the only way I found of making AWA and TON to "behave" (that is, to make AWA only go ON once per start and the timer to go ON every time AWA is DONE). Would there be a better way to do this or is this acceptable? When I tried connecting "start" to AWA directly the program just didn't behave the way I expected at all, I believe because AWA would always be enabled for more than one scan, although I cannot explain why this would be a problem since AWA should only execute from the transition false to true, no? 3) I never clear my buffers or reset my ASCII instructions... when I try to clear in parallel with JSR some of the ASCII instructions' bit ER goes ON, and when resetting my ASCII instructions sometimes I don't see any before/after difference, but oftentimes I just see an undesirable behavior, and to be honest I'm not even sure where in the code I should do it, so I wonder if I should bother. More specifically, in which situations should I care about doing it when writing a program, and where in the program is it recommended to do it? So far I don't seem to have a problem, so I'm being willingly ignorant about it Any suggestion regarding my code/logic is much appreciated! Thank you!
  23. I am working on a project with Micrologix 1400 and PanelView C600 I am not able to communicate over Ethernet with any device and my computer. I was not able to load the HMI screens so I don't know if they are communicating between themselves. The RSLinx does not see any device connected via Ethernet. I am using EtherNet/IP driver for this, not sure if that is right. I have tried connecting directly to each device from PC over ethernet and also connecting to them through switch. I can however ping each device and the packets are coming back. The IP assignments are as follows: 192.168.0.1 Router 192.168.0.2 PLC 192.168.0.3 HMI 192.168.0.25 PC Would anyone have any suggestions what I need to try to get this resolved? I was able to communicate with the MicroLogix via serial port but was not able to communicate with the PanelView through serial port at all. I have tried using the USB-2711-NC13 cable for the PanelView connection. Thank you.
  24. Hello all, I have been trying to get my first C-more application to work and am pulling my hair out. I have an AB micrologix 1400 and am trying to connect it to a C-More EA9 with ethernet. I am using a cable directly from the panel to the plc. I can ping the PLC, and works well with RSlogix via the Ethernet cable. Nothing I do to the EA9 CMORE has worked yet. I have changed the ip settings several times. I can load the program with a USB and I can see it using the CMore software but I cannot transfer. AutomationDirect seems to be out of town this week and I can't get anyone to speak/talk with. There is no section on troubleshooting this as far as I have found. I have set the PC to : IP 10.0.0.65 Mask of 255.255.255.0 I have set the EA9 Panel to : IP 10.0.0.21 Mask of 255.255.255.0 I have set the Micrologix to : IP 10.0.0.10 Mask of 255.255.255.0 Thanks, Hutch07
  25. At work we have been having a slightly increasing number of instances where the Micrologix 1400 that is paired with a Panelview C400 resets values when we cycle the power. Originally we thought the solution was a bad battery in the ML1400. This was the case the first few times that it happened. However, we recently had one doing the same thing and when the program was loaded onto another PLC and HMI combo it had the same issue. So either the battery for both just happen to be bad, or there is something in the program that is forcing the values to automatically reset when the power is cycled. I cannot post the program on here but I can tell you that the tags that are being reset are only used in the PLC program once. There are six total that are being reset and they are the high and low range in an SCP function that is used to scale inputs. I will be testing the program myself in house on a bench setup, but I wanted to get this question out there as soon as possible in case it is not an obvious problem. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? If I come up with an answer I will post it. Thanks.
