  1. Hello,  As the title indicates, we have a micrologix 1400 that has been installed for a long time.  Recently it faulted out on 71h and was in Remote Mode.  Do these PLCs revert to Remote Mode when in a fault condition?  We placed it back in Run Mode and everything worked fine, but how did it get to Remote Mode in the first place? Thanks,  J
  2. Is it possible to communicate from a PC program to PLC program for reading inputs and setting outputs? How can it be made ? is it possible to do from TER connector or AUX connector , without special comm module?
  3. Hi everyone, Recently, I started working with the Micro820 Controller Embedded I/O. My project is simple : when the output _IO_EM_DO_00 is set to true, an LED light turns on. But, even though it's super simple, I can't make it work. Here's my setup. If you need more information, feel free to ask anything !
  4. Hello all, I am still fairly new to this forum and PLC's in general. I am trying to connect a EA9 touch panel via Ethernet to an Allen Bradley Micro Logix 1400 PLC. I am using Ethernet over serial because I need the serial connection to program while using the touch panel. I have given the Panel the IP Address 192.168.1.20 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and I have given the PLC the IP address 192.168.1.10 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The panel is not communicating with the PLC and I have very little knowledge on the subject, anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. The picture on the top is from the PLC and the picture on the bottom is from the C-More program for the panel.
  5. Hi everyone ! I have a little project wich involves communication between two Micro820 controllers via TCP/IP. To do that, I started to work with TCP/IP socket. Within CCW (Connected Components Workbench), I tried to create a new socket instance using the instruction SOCKET_CREATE and set the socket address to 127.0.0.1:21. Basically, my computer through the FTP port. The problem was that it couldn't create a new socket instance (error variable is set to TRUE and status is set to 4, wich I don't know the meaning) because I didn't have a server-side application that listens to TCP/IP socket requests. That said, I found an open source application called SocketTest that listens for TCP/IP socket requests on a specified IP address and port. So, I started a listener on the following address : 127.0.0.1:21, but the error variable is still set to TRUE and status is still set to 4. So, my questions are : Is my IP address OK ? Is my port number OK ? What means the status code 4 ? Is SocketTest doing what I think it does ? Do I need to do something else before using the SOCKET_CREATE instruction ? Thank you in advance for your help !
  6. Hi everybody, Recently, I started working on a project. I want to develop a program for a Micro820 controller (2080-LC20-20AWB) using CCW (Connected Components Workbench). I built a little motor circuit for testing purpose. However, after building the program and downloading it to the controller, I tried to connect to my controller via CCW, but I can't. When I click the button "Connect", CWW crashes OR a window saying : "The controller has unnacepted changes" appears and asks me if I want to "Download current project to the controller" (wich I already did) or "Upload the project in the controller to overwrite current project content" (wich is grayed out). When I choose to "Download current project to the controller", CCW starts downloading the resource, but fails. In the "Output" window, there's a line saying : "Download failed for Device:Micro820: An error occured while reading from GETACTIVERESOURCELIST.". The problem is that there's no documentation at all concerning this error. I even tried to reinstall CCW, but it didn't fix the problem. I joined some images so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Don't mind asking for more details !
  7. Good morning i want to know how i can recognize into the compactlogix 1769-L24 ER the micro 850 (2080-LC50-24QBB), because i want to communicate this two devices with MSG, i already i can see these two equipments into RSlinx but when i start Studio 5000 i don't know whick module i have to use it to recognize the micro 850, please help me
  8. Hello, I have AB PV 300 micro HMI and AB ML 1000 PLC . i want to configure it so how i can do it ? is it possible to configure both without AIC ? Which cable is required please help me.   Thanks in advance
  9. I'm designing a PLC system in which a Micrologix 1400 talks Modbus TCP/IP with three Modbus TCP-capable SCR controllers. I've never done Ethernet/Modbus TCP communication using the 1400, so I'm asking the following questions: 1. Can I connect the 1400 PLC and the three devices to an Ethernet switch and configure Modbus TCP communication from the devices to the PLC (data collection only) ? The switch will also be connected to the customer's DCS, receiving the data from the PLC and the three devices. 2. Can I connect the Ethernet port on the1400 PLC to the Ethernet switch directly, or do I need some kind of Ethernet interface, like the 1761-NET-ENI ? 3. The system also includes an HMI, connected to the 1400 PLC by RS-232 communication. Any issues with communicating with the HMI and doing Modbus at the same time? Your help in this matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Ron
  10. Hi everyone, I have a Micrologix 1400 that went out over the weekend.  First thing that happened was a contact went out on it forcing us to move the wire and change the program to a different location, but then the next day it provided full voltage to a solenoid even when it was supposed to cut out via timer.  We switched the processor out, but now I want to find out why it went bad, and if there is something I can do to make the next one last longer.  I don't have techconnect through AB (That I know of), so how and where do I send my processor out to get a post-mortem analysis on it?
  11. As I am a noob this is probably a noob question. I have a machine with a micro 1400 and if the machine has a fault or jams it lights it's "machine fault" lamp. The fault can be triggered by one of 8 prox switches not getting made within a certain time span. There is nothing to indicate which one. I'd like to program the lamp to, rather than stay on steady, have a blink pattern to indicate which prox caused the fault condition. 3 blinks and a pause, then repeat for PROX 3 for example. I have searched for this with no joy. Thanks - Jon
  12. I'll try and keep this neutral and not degenerate into a rant, but my recent experiences with the AB Micro 850 have been less than heart-warming and encouraging.  We recently purchased a production line for my place of employment from a trio of OEM Equipment builders.  All were supposed to use AB ControlLogix or CompactLogix PLCs.  However, two of the vendors called purchasing and said "let us save you some money, by using the Micro-850 PLC Rockwell's latest and greatest offering".  And our purchasing bought it.  So this week we brought in a Rockwell Premier System Integrator to add 9300-ENA units to these machine so we could collect SCADA Data from them. Now in full disclosure these were CCW version 6 not the latest and greatest 9.1,  So we came to machine 1 a micro 850 and uploaded, saved a copy for safety, then changed the Gateway  from blank to the NAT device IP and downloaded.  Machines on our SCADA Net could now see the Micro 850, but the machine it was in wouldn't start or communicate with the Component Panelview.  Turns out that thing was in remote and came up in program.  Chose run and all appears well.  Go on and do machine 2 another Micro - 850 and it went equally flawlessly.  Our downtime window was up so we started making product.  Only one problem the previous maximum speed was unattainable.  As a matter of fact several configured variables were at their Initial Factory State rather than the state they were when we shut down.  SO HERE COMES BURN NUMBER ONE.  Upload and Save only gets the logic not the variables or the values.  You must export the Controller and each programs variables to a separate excel file to have them around to restore.  That means 1 upload and 15 exports per machine backup and no word of this "FEATURE" in the tech database.  Now today we got a window to do the third machine also a Micro-850. This time we went to program and changed the Gateway without downloading.  Went back to run and all was well in CCW, except the NAT couldn't find the Micro-850.  Blowing the project totally away and doing an upload we learned that the Gateway was not there.  So we did the 1 upload, 15 exports, 1 download and 15 imports and this time all worked fine.  SO HERE COMES BURN NUMBER TWO.  So now we try and place message instructions from Machine 1 to Machine 2 in place and nothing will communicate.  Now before you think we're total fools we had to Micro-850's talking to a Compact Logix on the shop bench just fine when they were all in the same subnet.  But when we placed NATs between them nothing works.  Hopefully our SI will sort this out over the weekend and I'll post that answer later.  SO HERE COMES BURN NUMBER THREE.  We've decided it is in our best interest to flash our Micro-850's to version 9.1, but given the Micro's track record we decided to flash a spare first and swap it in.  Only one problem, the Micro-850 is either such a hot commodity or poor unit that you can't get one for at least 2-3 weeks.  ANd FINALLY BURN NUMBER FOUR.  Trying to troubleshoot this week I wanted to force an INPUT on; only there is no right click and force option.  It is called variable monitoring and you must lock and un-lock.  It has been FORCE for two decades, why change what we call it.  Really did we need to make this more complicated.   OK I am done.  I will not knowingly spec or buy another 850 in my Plant.  Enough said.  Control and Compact Logix only.
  13. Hello,  I am getting this fault when I am trying to load one of my program and set to run mode.  I have the same plc and I have not had this problem again. 1761-L16BWA Any suggestions ? I think this plc is older than the other I have.
  14. Hi, everyone, I started learning very recently, and I have been writing this little program in which I communicate through RS-232 with a machine. Every time I send a command from the PLC I wait a couple milliseconds for the machine to send a response (a response must always exist, even if it's a mere acknowledgement response), then I save the response that the machine has sent. I organized my ladder logic by the commands that the PLC has to send to the machine (4 commands total, for example: execute this, give me status on that, etc). I started every ladder with an OSR and an AWA instruction, and when AWA is done I have a timer in the next rung to wait for the machine response, and after timer I have a ABL activated when TON is done. The Ladders are related in the sense that the end of each LAD contains a JSR instruction to the next command/ladder. So the commands/ladder always execute in a predefined sequence (LAD2 -> LAD3 -> LAD4 -> LAD5). The logic inside each ladder is like this (the last rung is a little different for the others, this is LAD2): ] start [ ----------------------------------------- [ OSR ] ] OSR OUTPUT BIT [ -------------------- [ AWA ] ] AWA/DN [ ---------------------------------- [ TON ] ] TON/DN [ ----------------------------------- [ ABL ] ] ABL/FD [ ------------------------------------ [ ARL ] ] test if ARL string is 0 [ ----------------[ JSR ] 1) Since I have to use timers so often in my program (they all last for the same period of time) I wonder if I could use the same timer every time (same Control File R6). But I'm quite lost on WHEN I would have to reset the timer, or if this would not be recommended at all, since the timer is still counting for more than one scan. Although I want to believe that the timer for that Ladder would never be counting after the JSR instruction, I think this is true only for the first time since the next time I turn "start" ON the ARL is not zero, so JSR would occur while the timer is still counting. I tried resetting my timer parallel to JSR and using the same timer in the next ladder, but then the timer only counted up for the first time "start" goes ON (I believe because the timer was constantly being reset at every scan). 2) Also using OSR with AWA was the only way I found of making AWA and TON to "behave" (that is, to make AWA only go ON once per start and the timer to go ON every time AWA is DONE). Would there be a better way to do this or is this acceptable? When I tried connecting "start" to AWA directly the program just didn't behave the way I expected at all, I believe because AWA would always be enabled for more than one scan, although I cannot explain why this would be a problem since AWA should only execute from the transition false to true, no? 3) I never clear my buffers or reset my ASCII instructions... when I try to clear in parallel with JSR some of the ASCII instructions' bit ER goes ON, and when resetting my ASCII instructions sometimes I don't see any before/after difference, but oftentimes I just see an undesirable behavior, and to be honest I'm not even sure where in the code I should do it, so I wonder if I should bother. More specifically, in which situations should I care about doing it when writing a program, and where in the program is it recommended to do it? So far I don't seem to have a problem, so I'm being willingly ignorant about it Any suggestion regarding my code/logic is much appreciated! Thank you!
  15. I am in the learning phase of HMI and PLC programing and am trying to use some of the hardware that has been donated to me. I have an AB panelview 300 micro terminal and a Micrologix 1000 Plc (they are not tethered yet). I have constructed a small test board with everything mounted to it and have successfully written and downloaded a simple project to the plc with timers, etc.   Now I need to find a way to program the terminal to make changes to the program.   I am looking for some free panelbuilder 32 or anything that will allow me to program the terminal and use it.   Can anyone help me? All help will be greatly appreciated!
  16. I am working on a project with Micrologix 1400 and PanelView C600 I am not able to communicate over Ethernet with any device and my computer. I was not able to load the HMI screens so I don't know if they are communicating between themselves. The RSLinx does not see any device connected via Ethernet. I am using EtherNet/IP driver for this, not sure if that is right. I have tried connecting directly to each device from PC over ethernet and also connecting to them through switch. I can however ping each device and the packets are coming back. The IP assignments are as follows: 192.168.0.1 Router 192.168.0.2 PLC 192.168.0.3 HMI 192.168.0.25 PC Would anyone have any suggestions what I need to try to get this resolved? I was able to communicate with the MicroLogix via serial port but was not able to communicate with the PanelView through serial port at all. I have tried using the USB-2711-NC13 cable for the PanelView connection. Thank you.
  17. Hello, I have a question if anyone could help. Need to communicate Enthernet/IP a PLC Micro 850 to an HMI Panel View 800 4.3'' . Some examples would help a lot. 1- http://ab.rockwellautomation.com/Programmable-Controllers/Micro850#overview 2- http://ab.rockwellautomation.com/graphic-terminals/2711r-panelview-800-graphic-terminals#selection thank you
  18. I'm getting ready to use a 4" PanelView800 with the Micro820, this is my first time, can anybody recommend a good Video, tutorial? I just going to display about 4 or 6 lines of "Instructions" and then have just 2 "Touch Buttons" a START & FINISH. Thanks
  19. I would like to create a Ladder logic file to do the following: When an Input is pressed, I want to start a Timer. When the input is pressed again, I want to write the Elapsed time of the timer to a word, and then reset the timer, and start the timer again. I tried putting a pulse Rising Edge Contact to start the timer, and a reverse contact (XIO) on the input to keep the timer going, but this only times half of the time. This is my first project with the Micro810 On RSLogix, I can reset the Timer, so I don’t have this dilemma. Any pointers?
  20. Hi, I have AB Micro820 PLC (2080-LC20-20QBB) which, acc. to the specs, can be both Ethernet/IP master and slave. I need it to be a master(scanner) and communicate with a KEYENCE DL-EP1 module, which is Ethernet/IP slave(adapter), but don't see any way to make that happen. How do you declare/configure Ethernet/IP slaves in Connected Components Workbench and how do you add slaves to your CCW project? I have an EDS file for the slave, but what to do with it? I imported it (have no idea where) with the EDS hardware installation tool which reported all was OK, but do not see the slave anywhere in the CCW. I only see in the Device Toolbox > Discover, but the only available option there is to remove it :) Thanks for any suggestions. Peter
  21. Hello all, I have been trying to get my first C-more application to work and am pulling my hair out. I have an AB micrologix 1400 and am trying to connect it to a C-More EA9 with ethernet. I am using a cable directly from the panel to the plc. I can ping the PLC, and works well with RSlogix via the Ethernet cable. Nothing I do to the EA9 CMORE has worked yet. I have changed the ip settings several times. I can load the program with a USB and I can see it using the CMore software but I cannot transfer. AutomationDirect seems to be out of town this week and I can't get anyone to speak/talk with. There is no section on troubleshooting this as far as I have found. I have set the PC to : IP 10.0.0.65 Mask of 255.255.255.0 I have set the EA9 Panel to : IP 10.0.0.21 Mask of 255.255.255.0 I have set the Micrologix to : IP 10.0.0.10 Mask of 255.255.255.0 Thanks, Hutch07
  22. At work we have been having a slightly increasing number of instances where the Micrologix 1400 that is paired with a Panelview C400 resets values when we cycle the power. Originally we thought the solution was a bad battery in the ML1400. This was the case the first few times that it happened. However, we recently had one doing the same thing and when the program was loaded onto another PLC and HMI combo it had the same issue. So either the battery for both just happen to be bad, or there is something in the program that is forcing the values to automatically reset when the power is cycled. I cannot post the program on here but I can tell you that the tags that are being reset are only used in the PLC program once. There are six total that are being reset and they are the high and low range in an SCP function that is used to scale inputs. I will be testing the program myself in house on a bench setup, but I wanted to get this question out there as soon as possible in case it is not an obvious problem. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? If I come up with an answer I will post it. Thanks.
  23. I am trying to use my RFIDeas pcProx plus reader with my micrologix 1400. I know that the 1400 can send and receive strings. I want to read in the id number from the reader and send it to an external database. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you
  24. Hello I was searching the internet and I came up with this forum. Im excited to be part of it as a newbe I have a question on a micro 1100 with pto outputs to a stepper drive. The drive I'm using is anaheimautomation MBC25081TB - Stepper Drivers with DC Input. I was told that the sourcing output of the 1100 would work fine with the clock input on the drive. this is how I wired the drive and this is how the drive looks. Im not even sure what Im doing I have the plc set up and see it pulsing but for the life of me I can't get the drive to move. Can you please tell me the errors of my ways. Im very new to this and its killing me trying to get this running.
  25. S7 200 Fatal Error

Hi guys, I have an S7 200 CPU 212 PLC and it is in system fault condition. I am using MicroWin V4.0 and I am connecting via 6ES7 901-3DB30-0XA0 USB PPI cable. I have followed the steps in the help file to find the fault code but cant seem to find how to rectify it. The code displayed in the fatal errors section is: '5 Permanent Memory error on user program' I was hoping that I could upload the program to my laptop, clear the PLC memory, then download the program back to the PLC. This does not seem to be possible and I am now stuck with a PLC in fault. I do not have a backup copy of the program so if I clear the memory I will be stuck. Any advice greatly appreciated
