I am now part of a startup company based on energy optimisation of HVAC in buildings. I am assigned to have research on which SCADA system to select for HVAC energy optimisation. The model is in such a way that, we need to create a SCADA / HMI for the client's building on top of existing Building Management System (BMS) to achieve energy saving. I am still an intern and I am requested to research on various SCADA options available in the market. I have few doubts regarding: 1. How can I select one SCADA / HMI over the other? 2.GE Cimplicity and Niagara 4 are two option which I am interested in. What is the major difference between both? (Price and functionality) 3. Is Tridium Niagara 4 a SCADA software? ( I read about it but I didn't understand as I am new to this field). Is it same like tia portal which is a software that is used to program plc and create user interface??

Hi I'm trying to set up Modbus RTU communication between FX3U PLC and a weigh module. I would use the ADPRW command using 0X03 to read the 16 bit Holding Register but in the weigh module the Data Address/Holding Register of the value I want to get is 400047 - 400048. How to translate the value in 16 bit? Thanks, Fabio

Hello! I am using the Plant PAX AOI L_CPU_24_Up and am having zero luck finding out both independently and from tech support what the 16 bits of the Ref_Out.Identity.Status are. The description says Tag to receive CPU data, device status (bitmapped, see documentation). I have a techconnect contract, but cant find the correct documentation where this information lives. Could someone please send me a link or just give me the number of the publication. I attached a screen shot of tag info I am looking for. Thank you!!!! -

Here is my setup - Factorytalk view SE V 7.0 with Primary and secondary servers. System gets replicated from primary to secondary once in a week. After the primary server was restarted due to some issue, all the HMI tags lost their values. 'Retentive' checkbox was checked on all HMI tags, initial value field is blank. According to the description of 'Retentive' field in the help file, the HMI tag should hold its value even after the server is restarted if the box is checked. Also, secondary server should have held those same values while primary was rebooting, but as of now all my HMI tags field are blanks. Am I looking at a patch roll up here?

Hi there! I need to implement a data logging that saves the log in a USB storage for a machine and just started searching for some info about data logging in NB HMIs. Up to now I'm clear about using the Data History function and the sampling method I'll be using but I still have some unclarified doubts about this. 1.- The data log should sample the value of, let's say, a couple of words, each second for an entire day (6:00 am to 6:00 am). NB's manual doesn't say a lot about Storage Type and Buffer Storage in "Save Data History" tab. Does "daily file" mean It deletes the .CSV file daily and it generates a new one? If is it, at what time does this occur? Does "single file" mean it generates a file and won't get deleted? Does this mean the sampling stops when completing the first one? Is "storage period" used to keep the file after the next log begins? 2.- Is it necessary to display the element in order to make the log work? Or can it be placed in a random screen you only enter once a day? 3.- In the "Channel Properties" tab. If I need to get the binary value of a word, do I need to set the max. limit to 65535? 4.- I asume that "Sample points" value doesn't matter when selecting Continue sample mode. Am I right? Hello, I am trying to log data using GT Designer 3 and I'm having no luck. I found some sort of online documentation and even going through the myriad of steps still find my self unable to log anything. I am using the melsoft project navigator and GX Works 2 to simulate the logging of just one 16 bit signed word with a constant value. As logging data is clearly not as simple as just specifying D100 or D200 as the devices you want to log, I am hoping someone else on here has some experience on this matter and can help me out. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi All, Bit of a noob here. I started a new project where the client is upgrading their SCADA system, and as such every discrete needs to be toggled, and every analog range needs to be tested. I've created an excel database with every register, however, changing the value in the tag is too manual for me and I'm trying to find a way to increase the automation. I am looking for a solution where I can write directly with the tags instead of fumbling through the horror which is Proficy. I've seen some mentions of using the trial version of Ignition but I am struggling to get that to a useable state. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Dear PLC forum. I have an issue with a customer who has bought some equipment with CQM1H-CPU61 installed. In order to program certain changes the device requires the password. Both I and the customer have contacted Omron but the only solution from their side was to buy a new system. As I have managed to find via googling the password can be recovered with Plc Backup Tools V6.0 software. Does anyone have the installer for this software and are they willing to share it with me? Hello, I am trying to have single press and double press etc. functionality in my PLC program where for example, single press will turn on the motor whereas double press will turn on the motor for 5 seconds. Hi all, I am currently having a project of polling data from PLC CJ1M using Advantech ECU-1051 IoT gateway which support rs-232 serial connection (Host Link) to poll data from the PLC for data acquisition and monitoring, I would like to use peripheral port since rs-232c port is used for HMI. However, I am currently stuck at make the connection between those two devices. I did setup same transmission configuration between them (baudrate, Unit number, start/stop bits,...). Is there any configuration that I have missed to make the communication works?

I am pretty new to the SCADA world. I wanted to know what are the advantages of using a paid proprietary SCADA software such as WinCC, Wonderware, cimplicity over free software such as OpenSCADA, OpenAPI, IndigoSCADA and so on. I have read, there are more layers of security in the paid one. What does that mean? What are the other main differences between the paid and free ones out there in the market?

Dear Engineerds, My Master (non siemens) doesn't see the Holding Registers of the Slave (S7-1200) plc. However the Q coils are fine and all Diagnostics don't show errors. The Hardware: S7-1200 – CPU 1215C CM PtP – CB1241 RS485 (6ES7 241-1CH30-1XB0) - Half Duplex RS584 Firmware: Modbus_Comm_Load (V3.1) Modbus_Slave (V4.0) I've tried with various DB, UDTs and manipulating HR_Start_offset parameter with no success. It's been quite the while since I have had to restore an SE network distributed application. I'm trying to get it restored in the distributed application manager but when it starts it fails. There's a log and it tells me "Unable to restor FactoryTalk Directory." Anybody run into this problem and have any solutions? Thanks.

Good day everyone, before I start asking my question, just want to let you all know that my knowledge with PLC is not that good. I'm still learning on how to do it. So currently I'm working on a project that trying to obtain data from Omron PLC. I was told that I can't touch the Omron PLC program or modify it. That Omron PLC is connected in an isolated network within a router. Other than adding Network Card on the device, can I use another PLC (any brands) to get the data from that Omron PLC through the router? The communication protocol using here is Ethernet. Can i just tapped into the network and take the data with that way? Or the other method I'm thinking is that, the Omron PLC will feed the data to a server, can I just obtain that data from server by using OPCUA? I heard there's some PLC that have the OPCUA function, I just make my PLC into the cilent and request the data of that Omron PLC from server through Ethernet. Is this possible? Please let me know whether my method works or not, thanks in advance guys!

I'm editing an old program for a customer that has a zillion user-defined data types. Scrolling through the list trying to find a specific type definition is taking way too long. Is there and easy way to find a specific data type definition? It would help if I knew how to collapse the view so I don't have to scroll through each member of every type. There doesn't seem to be any right-click menu items that would collapse the view.

Hi All; Does anybody here have a copy of Fast tools 10.02. It can like Citect be run for 1 hour in demo mode which is ideal to asses its capability. We are looking at having to use it but would like to review in demo first. Local Distributor is not providing much assistance.
