Controlling Cylinder Stroke Length
grubb posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell AutomationHello - I've recently started my adventure into PLC programming and I've found this site to be very helpful. I took on a project that requires control of a cylinder - the short and skinny is that the cylinder will have to provide position feedback and stroke to various set lengths determined by position of a selector switch. So - If position 1 is selected, the cylinder will stroke 20"inches. If Position 2 is selected, cylinder will stroke to 25"inches - so on and so on. My questions is how to best go about this process. I may be having a brain-block and not viewing this clearly, but something is not clicking for me and wanted some advice. Planned on using Allen-Bradley's Micro850 PLC (had one on the shelf, and CCW software is free so why not). Thanks
dbenedi2 posted a topic in General Topics - The LoungeI'm looking for some general information about different types of vibration/temperature sensors. What type, brand, model number, etc. will best fit my application. Scenario: I want to monitor the vibration and temperature of multiple motors and gearboxes for a large overhead conveyor system. If an oil leak occurs and temperature increases, I want to see a temp. alert via a HMI. If a something mechanical fails, I want to see a vibration alert via a HMI. I've looked into sensors that stick to the outside housing of the motors or gearboxes via a magnet. My concern is justifying the temperature readings. How accurate would a sensor that reads an "ambient" temperature be (compared to a thermocouple on the motor coil itself or some sort of probe)? Also, would the location of the magnet on the motor or gearbox drastically affect the temp. or vib. readings? Has anyone had success with a similar setup? If so, what devices did you utilize? Are these systems truly beneficial? I'm currently considering Banner's wireless products...
N_Locus posted a topic in GEI have restored a crashed IFIX to a new PC. The restore is ok and installed GE9 driver. With the GE9 power tools, we can observed that data transmits and recieve. The problem is that the screen scada is not updating i.e. no status/feedback, anything is happening. The LAN network TCP/IP was configured i.e. IP, subnet and gateway. Any remedies/advice is most welcome. Please provide a guide on the communication/configuration setup. Thanks
