  1. Good day, I would like to extract the FT View SE Alarm Log. We currently have got a Excel spreadsheet set up with a connection to the FTAE SQL Database.  When I refresh the data, Excel give an error telling me that the data is more than what can be displayed in a spreadsheet. So it then discards the latest data. I have tried setting a database limit in the Factory Talk Administration console to only keep the last 60 days worth of data but it does not seem to take effect. I get data from January 2017 up to 15 October 2018. Is there a way to configure the ODBC connection in excel to only give me the data for the last 30 days or is there someone that can help me to limit the size of the database? I have attached the current connection config.
  2. Hello, I am trying to restore a runtime application from one of our pvp+1000 hmi's, the only problem is nobody knows the password for the runtime application. I have talked to the OEM that installed the electrical cabinet years ago, and every password they have given me will not work. I am able to log into the configuration screen. Is there anyway someone would know how to get around the password or reset it so I can modify the existing .mer file?  Thanks, new guy
  3. I have a configured and working FT Transaction Manager, but the computer it’s installed on needs to be replaced and now I'm trying to install FTTM on different computer. I’m trying to complete the configuration "checklist", but when I get to the "Define Data Points" step, there are no applications in the "Select an Application" pop up window. What's wrong? I'm new to all of this...
  4. I've found very similar errors, but not exactly this one. Does anyone have any insight on how to remedy this? I'm using Factory talk and RSLogix5000.
  5. Hey Guys, I'm somewhat new to Data logging so try to bare with me. I'm trying to setup Data logging in Factorytalk View SE to log to my SQL database. I have created the 32-bit ODBC system DSN. Created the datalog model in FT View Studio and selected ODBC and it created my tables fine (Float, String, Tag). I chose Login required. I also setup a File backup path. With that being said, when I use the command DatalogOn- It will start the Datalog model without any errors, but will only log to the backup path. It isn't logging anything to my SQL DB. I thought it could be the firewall blocking it so I created a rule to allow connections through the specified port. SQL is also allowing Reading/Writing.  Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks!

  8. SCPI Communication

Has anyone been able to set up back and forth communication with a device that uses SCPI? I have a D2-260 and 5 Kikusui power supplies. The PLC already utilizes a RS485 Modbus network and also has an Ethernet connection. The power supplies only have a RS232 connection and uses SCPI commands. I have searched the web over and there are Modbus to ASCII converters but how to make it where to catch the response in a register for the PLC to find? I am open to anything, 5 small PLCs to there is no possible means to do this. Any direction would greatly be appreciated!
  9. Any new tags I add in studio 5000 the HMI project shortcut cannot locate the tags, it says unresolved route to processor. It's the same shortcut all of the other tags are using. Please help.
  10. We have an auto-clave unit purchased at auction roughly 4 years ago.   CompactLogix L32e and PanelView Plus 1000.  All has been working for us until last week.  Suddenly, the program seems to freeze up after around 30 seconds.  I can still touch the panelview and the touches are registered, (the mouse icon moves) but the program does not respond and I can tell the program is frozen because the clock which displays seconds stops counting. When i boot into safe mode (clicking white box on boot) the system does not seem to freeze at all.  I am able to navigate those menus w/o issue.  We don't have any of the software to connect to the PLC.  I understand this is a somewhat broad issue, but does anyone have any idease where i can start in troubleshooting this? or is their any further info i can provide which would be helpful?

  13. I got into a project were they have 20 panelviews plus 1500 around the building, and they want to be able to serrate the displays accessible by the users based on the physical location of the panelview, for example Room1 should not see room2 but can see room3, at this moment we have a complete application with all the screens that have been downloaded to all panelviews, in order to avoid maintain 20 different ME applications I would like to ask if any of you had this problem before or any ideas on how to go forward with it.   Thanks
  14. Hey everyone first post on here, does anyone know if it is possible to convert a string into a double integer. i am working with a dimensioner and it is sending me its box dimensions in a 12 char string (see attached picture). however i need this data as a double integer (it seems to just take the string length not the string value i have tried both dim_lengh and dim_length.data[0]). i have gotten it down to the point where i have the string split up into the dimensions i need but i dont know how to do the conversion. (box dims for reference are 21 X 15 X 14.8) Thanks in advance, Dr. Brule
  15. good day! I would like to put some ascii code in a device: D3000..D3009 has to be filled with 0x5F54 0x4F5F 0x4150 0x6F73...  ("_TO_APos")  When I fill it using an ascii-input-field in the designer and press "enter" it works. But I would like to put this text automatically in D3000 and following register, when the user press a switch-object. I tried with an 10 actions  "keycode" but I don't see how to say that the key code shouls be saved in D3000. Can somebody tell me the best way to fill more word devices with only one object switch? Thanks in advance   MEBoerner
  16. My client is a pharmaceutical company and they want to interface their Blood Gas Analyzer (which is a RAPIDPoint 500) to a Controllogix PLC via EtherNet. I have attached a Spec that I found, which gives the initial information you would need to do this. It says that the BGA can transmit data in ASCII. However, it doesn't list what bits I need to send to the device in order for it to send the PLC the data. I've tried contacting Siemen's (who makes the BGA) and they were useless. I also tried searching the RA knowledgebase.  Does anyone have any insight on how to communicate with a device in this way? Thank you Tyler RP500_LIS_5_20_13_-_Rev_C_.pdf
  17. Hi Guys, I need help/advice.  First, I'm not new to PLC programming and design. I've been doing this for 30 yrs.  OK that said, 30yrs ago I cared about things like PLC5 serial communications sending ASCII characters as it was a common thing.  Well, I've slept and drank a whole hell of a lot in 30yrs so I really don't care now but I need to do it again. I'm working on a PLC5 to Control Logix conversion.  The company will not update this ancient chamber environmental control.  So, the ASCII coms need to stay.  The old PLC5 took the command string to change the temperature and did a AWA command and out port 0 the new temp setting went.  Logix however, it is not that pretty.  I'm using a Prosoft Technology PLX31 Ethernet to ASCII.  My problem is, the Prosoft device data table in the Logix is data type SINT.  How do I get the command string "L1S"+temperature value, example 27C, so the command would be "L1S27" into the data type array of SINT.   The header is constant.  The only thing that changes is the digits.  So would you guess I convert the L & 1and put those in the first address, S and the first digit of the temperature in next address and the remaining digits in the 3rd word?   Perhaps I'm making it all too difficult.  From what this old memory is telling me, I need to convert each character into the ASCII Hex or Decimal equivalent.  So anybody out there still familiar with this s....tuff?
  18. Hey, this is probably a stupid question, but how do I delete old FactoryTalk View Programs. They are the ones that I have uploaded from a PanelView Plus via the "Transfer Utility" and then restored runtime using the "Application Manager". I open up FactoryTalk View Studio and I can see a list of all the runtime applications or I can create a new one. My question is, where are these applications stored by default? I have a bunch of old ones and test programs that I want to delete that are just cluttering up my list. I attached a screenshot to show you exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks, I'm sure this is a pretty easy/ dumb question. Howard

  20. Hello, I'm not sure if I should make some presentation first but as time is always short i'll just expose the doubt. Unfortunately because of a technician misunderstanding I ended resetting/erasing the PT software after a full memory error. The SW2 switch 1 was used and the system screen data program was erased instead of the program client data. So all the screens menus buttons etc were lost. Unfortunately there was no copy of the application but a similar machine was found were a different screen (NT21-ST121-E) was installed and by luck the programmer technician used the same file from the machine I'm dealing with. I suppose he might have done some modifications to make that machine able to deal with the same and different objects too. But the base menu screens seem exactly the same. In fact the screen buttons appear to be miss aligned as for a smaller screen, so for sure He used the same application. Now the problem is that the NT- Series Support Tool 4.82 only allow auto-conversion of the applications to a recent model. Example, if a make a NT20S application and change the PT type to NT21 it asks for conversion confirmation and all goes ok. (It will need to set Clock Address that I don't know which to chose). But this Is not what is the problem. Problem is that after uploading the application from the NT21 of the other machine to the NT Tool, I can't just download it to the NT20S PT. And if I go to the PT configuration menu it will only allow me to chose another higher model of hardware. Earlier hardware models won't even show in the list. Is there any tool I can use to convert back the NT21 application to the NT20S?   Regards.
  21. Hello all  i'm looking for some software to record a 100 plus channels maybe with an ascii string from a PLC? i want to be able to assign each channel with a unit and a range, flagging feature would be nice.  - selecting the channels i want to view  - auto start recording - save file and start new automatically  -view and create reports  preferably no additional hardware because of the amount of channels. this is to record an operators every move so in events of damage or plant failure we can quickly identify the problem (point the finger)  many thanks dan

  23. Hello All, I am using Wonderware InTouch 10.0 on Windows 7. It's slightly outdated, but its what we have. I am currently writing a script using the StartApp command to open a particular PDF file with the touch of a button. My script looks like StartApp("C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32 C:\1.pdf"); The first part of the command runs adobe and the second part of the command opens the particular file "1". What I need to figure out is, how do I insert a variable into a string. For example I have 55 files I may potentially need to open up, all named 1-55. So I need the file I am calling to be a variable inside of the string so I can call it inside of a loop. I do not want to copy and paste this code 55 times, I want to make the file name a variable (tagname that is a memory real between 1 and 55) so I can run it in a loop. I have only been using Wonderware for a month or so now, so If anything is confusing feel free to ask. Thanks!
  24. Good morning everyone!   I tried to open an older project with Factory Talk View ME which was last opened with “FactoryTalk View Studio 5.0 “. The current version that I have installed and licensed is Release Number 9.00.00 (CPR 9 SR 9), Patch/Pack Number: 00, Build Number 241. Upon opening the project, I receive the following error message:   “The target HMI project is a legacy project (Factory Talk View v6.00 or earlier). Please use the legacy Tag Database utility to convert its tag database to the new format (Factory Talk View v6.10 or later) before opening the HMI project on a computer running on a 64-bit operating system. Refer to Help for guidance.”   I tried to use the Legacy Tag Database Conversion tool, selected “Create Factory Talk View Tag Database in new format”, then I selected “Factory Talk view Machine Edition”, selected the source folder and used the option to “Search Sub-folders”. After hitting the Next button it shows a list of available projects, but the one project that I try to convert is not listed.   Any ideas how to approach this? Is it possible to install multiple revision supports with Factory Talk View? So, far I always used the latest and just created the run time as an older version, if the panel I used wasn’t updated.   Please let me know what you guys think I should try.
  25. Good Morning, I have some questions around the FactoryTalk View software used to create and modify Panelview Plus programs. I am currently working with Panelview Plus 1000. I have recently done a bit of programming on older panels through Panelbuilder32 so I have a some AB experience, but by no means am I an expert. This whole process seems a little overcomplicated (coming from an OMRON background)... having to upload, restore, then create back to runtime whilst having to match versions... First question is file types. I have noticed there are two file types. .APA and .MER. I have tried doing a little research but cannot figure out what the actual difference between these two file types are. I do know that when I upload the program from the HMI it comes in a .MER. Will this file contain all of the information from the original program? I have read some things about people losing security and communication set-up... Before I go downloading a modified program I would like to make sure this is not the case. Second question is with regards to editing procedure. My understanding is, as I mentioned above, I upload the .MER then I proceed to restore the application using FactoryTalk. I then edit everything I want. Is the correct procedure to then create a runtime application and then download that to the HMI. This question kind of ties into the first as I am really only worried about downloading and losing comms / security log ins. Third question is with regards to version. My understanding is I must match the version with the current version installed on the HMI. Is there anything more to this? When I create runtime application all I have to do is make sure the version type matches that of the HMI? Any help is very much appreciated :) Cheers, dWiseman
