Panel View 1000 Plus: application password reset
josedavidchcr posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I have this panel view 1000 plus with accounts enabled but customer forgot the app password. I have both the executable and source file. Can I retrieve the password from any of both files? Can accessing configuration mode help disabling security to enter new passwords? Having the files, what is the best way of retake control over this application? I am not experienced on AB equipment, but have general experience on automation. I have access to Factory Talk View. -
Factory Talk SE HMI Tag Issues, Ghosting Values, Inactive tags.
Motozono posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello All,I am having some difficulty lately with my HMI tags randomly ghosting their values in my HMI, a persistent Inactive Tag warning, and 3 of my 11 clients don't read client tags. I believe that they could be related, but maybe not. If what I have below is not sufficient please ask for more info so that you are able to help as best as possible. Thank you in advance for your help!Ghosting Values ProblemAt the endpoint of my HMI, the value will occasionally show an empty box for an object that has an association, or animation connected to an HMI tag. If I go into my Data Test Client and look at that tag it will show up as a bad quality (as expected with ghosted value). However, the direct tag address will show good quality with the expected value from the OPC UA server. Now to get the ghosting to go away and it to show the object as intended on HMI I have two solutions that work. 1. I can reference the direct tag address to that object, however, I am trying to use HMI tags for their ease of use in the long run. 2. In the Tag Browser I can change the Data Source to another OPC UA connector in the project. It fixes it. Furthermore, if I switch the data source back to the source that was ghosting, it will not ghost and the value in the data test client for the HMI tag is good quality and matches the direct tag as well. When I fix the tag, the tag itself works well and has not had an issue in the future, but other random tags around the HMI will slowly go bad, sometimes it can be 1 box or a handful on a display that ghost. I don't want to be manually having to check and change the addresses every day for the 5-10 tags that ghost.Inactive Tags ProblemI am also having an exorbitant amount of "inactive tag" warnings on my Diagnostic Viewer. I do not know what makes the tag active or inactive. The error itself is attached below (some specfic info redacted). This one shows 5 items, but that number can be in the hundreds for similar warnings. One thing I notice in the warning that pops out to me is the resource shortcut vs the adsipath. They reference different OPC UA connectors in the project. Why is there a crossover on those two things? Is there a way to make sure they stay active all the time? Client Tags not Read ProblemI have set up some client tags to help with the visibility of the different navigation menus. I have it set up that I have 4 buttons that when pressed change a client tag to an integer of 0, 1, 2, or 3. Based on that number one of four navigation menus comes up to navigate the HMI. Prior to the client tags, I set it up as an HMI tag, however, the issue was that if one operator on one client changed their nav bar, it changed all clients' nav bars. Thus client tags were needed to locally change the nav bar on each of my clients. The problem is, of my 11 clients around the facility, 3 of them show the nav bars as ghosted values and when I look at the client tags in those three, they come up as null or not found. However, on the other 8 clients around the facility, their nav bars work well with the client tags. Why would some clients work, while others do not, is there a setting I am missing? I have ensured they have the same firewall rules on the domain, that the computers can communicate (via ping), they have a good connection to the FT directory server, and they are using the same user login. Yet they are still different.Notes and Recent Actions Taken on System1. Recently added a new OPC UA connector (still had inactive issues before that) 2. Have changed about 20 percent of facility tags to new OPC UA connector 3. Connectors have redundancy to the secondary HMI. 4. All computers have access to the FT Directory server 5. All factory PC's have the same configuration and login that is being used. 5. Computers have enough resources to handle the load.-

View Designer Alarm's Message not showing
AlexGLV posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hi! I hope you could help me with the problem I've been having with this HMI. Usually I use the Instruction-based alarms (ALMD) in the program of my PLC Controller (ControlLogix 5580) to be able to send Alarm Messages to my View Designer Panel View. However, on this new HMI I'm getting the alarm trigger on the Panelview (I get the prompt on the Alarm Summary, and get the Alarm TAG of the ALMD Instruction associated with the alarm), but for some reason the Alarm Message is on blank. It´s the same for all the alarms on the controller. I checked again and the "Message" parameter of the ALMD is configurated, and even test just typing "a" as an Alarm Message to see if it was that the string was too long, but even with that the message didn't show up. Can you help me understand what I'm doing wrong?- 1 reply

Hi all, I have a global customer that still uses FTV SE version 10 (I'm sure some may know who). I provide a customised solution using CompactLogix 5380 series PLC and an FTV SE application for part of their operations. Something that has been on my mind for a while is the ability of local tags or variables held only at the display client (thin client in this case). I have used HMI tags and also tags in the PLC, but my need for local client tags is that I hold the current display name and importantly, the area of the display page. Essentially I use a common display page to show one of two areas, they are identical in appearance, just different areas, and make good use tag substitution by passing a parameter file to the selected display page. While the methods above appear to work, I wonder what happens when two users at two different display clients operate the application, selecting different pages from my menu. With either HMI tags or PLC tags, they would simply get over written by the last write by the last user, hence why I would like to use tags local to the display client. I would like to avoid any use of HMI tags stored on the server if possible. Any advice is much appreciated.

FT View Client v10 on Windows 2016 crashes randomly every few days
Joris85 posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Dear automation friends, I just like to put some issue in the clear that I have seen no reported issues on yet, but it is killing me. Maybe some other people in the world also have this issue. We use Windows 2016 on FT View v10. All patched with all compatible patches (both Windows and Rockwell). We install this software a lot but we only got this issue seen/reported on windows 2016. I never had a Rockwell issue that took so long without getting it fixed. Support is also not really helping. We just have a setup of Windows 2016 with 2x redundant FT View Servers and about 10x Clients with each 4x screens. The HMI clients run perfectly but every few days, 1 application (on 1 of the 4 screens) just crashes "DisplayClient.exe application crash...". That closes the HMI interface and then the users needs to click on the hmi.cli file to launch that screen again. Refering to ntdll.dll in the windows events. No additional info except for the windows error reporting that is unable to contact the internet to send the crash report. Looking in the FT Diagnostics, it happens while the operator is operating the hmi screen. Not when there is no activity. We reinstalled 1 client completely from scratch, including the OS, domain integration, everything brandnew. And 10 hours later: crash on 1 of the 4x screens. In a control room with almost 30 screens, this is very annoying and unacceptable. If you have a similar issue or got the issue fixed, please let me know. If you have a similar issue and don't have it fixed, we can share more detailed logs. Best Regards, -

Factorytalk View SE - Connect to pre-existing HMI
CynertiaDoug posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello, I'm a little experienced, a little new with (I hope) a fairly beginner question. I've got a customer that has a pre-existing HMI running a Factorytalk View SE - Network program. The customer would like to make some changes to the HMI, and I feel pretty confident that I could do this; the only problem is I'm having difficulty connecting to their system and downloading a version of the program that I can edit. Almost every How to video and instructional PDF that I can find appears to start from the premise that I created the program and have an existing copy on my computer or am starting from scratch, but that is not the case. I know the IP address of the Networked PC that is running the HMI and can ping it etc, but I do not know how to connect to it. I even have a copy of almost all of the files that the PC is running from the customer, but do not have a file that I can open in FTView to edit or change then download; I think I'm missing the .cli file or somesuch? Do I have to be directly logged on to the PC or can I be on my programming laptop and connect via Ethernet->switch->PC (I think I need FactoryTalk Linx for that, which I have a licensed copy of)? I know that Machine Edition requires a .mer file to be able to open and edit an HMI program, is the network edition the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
Dynamic wedge with borders that change with tag values
liltecca posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello, has anyone had success in creating a wedge with borders that change due to its assigned tags? Attempting to create a range on a gauge using wedge, but am unsure how to approach this considering it wouldn't be rotating the wedge around a point but rather changing the size of the wedge.- 14 replies

Graphics not displaying in HMI simulation
robror_ posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hi there! This is my first time using Rockwell automation software and I have some questions I can't answer. When I'm running the FactoryTalk runtime application with a simulated controller, I get disconnected from Logix Designer, so I can't online watch the program. If I try to simulate using 'Test Application' in FactoryTalk View Studio, it appears to communicate, but buttons don't make any effect when pressed. Hope you can throw some light on it! Thanks in advance!- 6 replies

Unable to delete a screen
lqu@edgeautomation.ca posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello AB professionals, I am using FactoryTalk View Studio v11. I am basing on an old project to build my application. I restored the project from a .mer file. I deleted or renamed some old screens, saved and closed the project. But when I open the project next time the screens I deleted still show up. When I click on it it will show an error message "Component does not exist". In the FactoryTalk ME application, I right click a screen name on the left tree under the Graphics, and then click "Delete" or "Remove", the display would disappear at that time. But it persists on coming back next time I open the project. If you know the solution to resolve please reply. It is much appreciated. Thank you. Lei -

I have some SLC500 that I am attempting to connect to for the first time. I am using a PC with USB, an AB-1747-UIC A with USB connection, running through a DH-485 Link Coupler to the CPU. I have configured a DF1 driver, and a UIC driver both successfully in RS Linx, but the CPU will not show up in RS Who, therefore I cannot connect to it. I have tested that the connection is good to the CPU, as the driver would not be successful otherwise. I cannot figure out why the PLC does not populate in RS Who. Any ideas?

I am starting an upgrade process for all my SLC50* PLCs and working out the communication of my machines for the upgrade. I ran into this complication I don't understand. I have 2 machines that work together using 1 HMI. Both machines have their own PLCs. Both are running SLC5/02 to 1747-AIC link coupler then to the 2711P-RN6 interface with the DH-485 communications running parallel. I don't understand how this works, or how I might possibly upgrade the communications from 2 PLC's into 1 HMI without linking the PLC's programming first. (Also, a complication I am working on, I only have the Runtime file, not the ME file for the HMI program).

Hide Button on Global Based on Current Display
Heald33 posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I have a global sidebar that has all of my page navigation buttons. Is there a way to hide a certain button based on the current page that is displayed (i.e. "Manual" button is invisible when the Manual screen is displayed)? I know how to make a button visible/invisible based on a tag or expression, but I don't know how to do it based on the current page. -

Hi, One of my employee just factory reset our main HMI Panel, we don't have the latest backup. Is there a way even paid to connect to the device (KTP1200 Basic) and restore the latest version? Maybe there is a few days where the data is still available on the device and we can take a pc and try to get it back?? Thanks

SLC5/03 to FactoryTalk View SE via MGATE EIP3170
Fusion87 posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello All I have 6 x SLC5/03s that I am trying to connect to a windows PC that is running FactoryTalk View Studio Enterprise. To do this I have connected Serial to Ethernet gateways (MGATE EIP3170) to each CH0 serial port of the SLC5/03s. The EIP3170s are connected to a switch that has the windows PC connected to it . The EIP3170s and the PCs are all on the same subnet. In FT View SE I have added 6 x Serial DF-1 drivers for each SLC5/03. When I add the drivers, I can see three of the SLC5/03s. If I try to add any more Serial DF-1 drivers I loose communication with all of the SLC5/03s and the diagnostic window in FT View SE I see the following error message: DF1: Failed to open '\\.\COMx', error = 0x000005AA. When I phoned Rockwell Automation what this error message means they told me it is a "Fatal access error" which means that the EIP3170s are incompatible with FT Linx. Does anyone know if it is actually possible to connect more than 3 EIP3170s to FT Linx? I am sure I have seen an article on how to do this but I can't seem to find it again-

I have a display I use to show overviews on several big tvs in our plant. Up to now I have used a single display and change which display is visible based on tag that increments based on a timer. This has worked great but as my system grows I keep adding additional "blocks". I have now ran into the issue that you can only have 3000 tags on one display. While i only display one block at a time all of them load so that pushes me over the limit. I am guessing I need a vba script to accomplish this . If someone has done this I would love to see some VBA examples of what you did. Or other ideas...

View Designer No Communication to Controller by USB
montasir posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
My Compact Logix PLC is connected to my computer by USB. When I try to create a new view designer file, I can not connect my view designer with my controller. "OK" button of the HMI to controller path remains INACTIVE. Please see the attached. How can i solve this issue? -
This is my first post so let me know if there is anything wrong with my post. I am learning Studio 5000 right now for an internship and created a simple project involving a pushbutton and some LEDs. Now I am trying to create an HMI for it in View Designer. My problem now is that I cannot establish a connection to the project because I do not have a physical HMI connected to my plc (Logix 5380). I can't find any way to emulate an HMI module so that I can get it to run. When I emulate my HMI project it tells me "Unable to reach controller TEST" where test is the name of my plc program. I added a module that matched the model in my HMI program (panelview 5510 2715p-t7wd) which I arbitrarily picked at random. But when I go into references and try to add HMI to Controller Path it does not show up (I'm assuming it's because it is faulting in the plc program since it doesn't actually exist). Is there not a way to emulate an HMI or add a virtual HMI to my studio 5000 program that I could connect to from View Designer?

Control List Rockwell, GE, AutomationDirect
Masen_Suhadolnik posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I'm a young Controls Engineer at an integration company, and I need assistance. I have a client that has about 330 different alphanumeric product numbers broken down by length and width. The operator must be able to select the product number at the HMI to pass along to the robot we are integrating. Is there a way to be able to have the operator select the product number simply, without having to scroll over 300 items in a single control list. The HMI is not chosen yet, so it can be GE, Rockwell/AB, or Automation Direct, but we are using a AB ControlLogix Processor. Racking my brain and I have little VBA/Scripting experience.- 3 replies

I am having a very weird issue that Rockwell was not able to help with. I have a new SE application that I converted from RSView32 and I re-wrote some VBA code associated with the project. The code works fine on the server while the screen is running in studio. Once I deploy a Client it no longer works. It just sits there like its waiting for my trigger to go off, but I am seeing it sit there with a 1 so i know it should be executing the code because as soon as i open the screen in studio and press play the code executes and my data is there. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks
