  1. I have an application I am currently working on where I have a single AB ControlLogix PLC that needs to read data from 12+ Omron CJ2M PLCs.  The Omron PLCs don't need to read any data from the AB.   I have tried several things including the generic .eds file from Omron and the instructions in the document I found on this site:  Omron CJ2 to Rockwell ControlLogix Ethernet/IP Datalink.  The generic .eds file gave me a D6 error on the Omron side and after talking to support it does not seem like the correct path.   When I tried following the instructions for the datalink I ran into several issues.  The first issue was that after configuring my network in the Omron software upon trying to load it I got a unit mismatch message for the 1756-EN2T, the .eds file I have is for a 1765-EN2T but the card shows as a 1756-EN2T/D, so I am concerned that could cause an issue...that being said I can't find any .eds file specifically for the /D revision.  The next thing I noticed was that there doesn't seem to be be a way to link the produced data from the Omron to the AB, the Omron configuration software with the AB .eds files loaded only gave me the option to send data to the Omron which we do not need to do.  I created a generic Ethernet module in my RSLogix program for the Omron PLC and then created a consumed tag and linked that to the module but I do not see where I set up the link on the Omron side for that, so how does it know what addresses to read?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you!
  2. IFIX Scada communication issues

I am new to ifix, I am having an issue, I am unable to receive any information, after attempting to fix the fact that the view was only pulling half the data I lost it all, I had a back up saved, but it didn't work on restoring communication, I was getting a cannot connect to node error, but I have fixed that, now all I am getting is question marks. essentially I believe that I have two standalone computers with the ifix software and the communicate directly with various plcs that share information across, either a ring topology or full connected. so the computer I have that is working is setup with scada and the database and MB1 with no network support, the one that is not working is set up the same, my cable connection is a usb to Ethernet and im communicating with a Comm port on the computer. I've tried different comm ports, even contacted GE, they were suppose to have someone call me back but no one has yet. Can anyone give me an idea of what I've got wrong here?
  3. I believe I have found a bug in FactoryTalk View ME version 8.10. I have a trend object that uses parameter file placeholders on the connections tab. These are direct-addressed to the shortcut ie {[PLC]...}. The historical data from the datalog does not show. (The pens write lines, but when I navigate away from the screen and come back, the lines are gone and begin drawing again from the right side.) The current data does show. This tells me that the placeholders are correct syntax. When the screen loads, the placeholders are being replaced by a string which yields a correct tag path, or else the pens would not be writing correct data. When I replace the placeholders manually and directly address the tag, the historical data does show correctly. This tells me that the datalog is set up correctly and is logging data. I have verified that a previous project of mine, using I believe version 6.0, successfully used this method of using one screen and one trend to plot various tags using parameter placeholders, and the historical data did show correctly.
  4. HOSTLINK Problem

I  am doing  a data collection from  OMRON PLC CP1L through MS excel VBA  use API function. The connection was setuped correct (I think)both in PLC and PC side. The trick things is   when PLC have USB cable connected  the data  was send to PLC and can get feedback through RS232 in normal.(I use portmon moniter the progress, and I can see the data (C-command ).But when I get the USB cable removed  ,The PLC can not get any reponse back.Dose any of you have met that  before?

  11. Hi, I work as an industrial programmer primarily dealing with Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Omron PLC's as well as various peripheral devices. I would like to begin the process of learning computer programming as it pertains to the manufacturing industry. I'd like to learn how to write databases (SQL, etc) and VB apps and eventually I'd like to be able to write applications that can communicate with PLC's and other devices (although the last one would be a ways down the road).  I have very little experience with computer programming so I don't really know where to start. What language should I learn first? What free software is available to learn with? What resources do you recommend I use? I've downloaded Visual Basic Express and found some introductory courses online that I've just started but if there is something else I should've started with I'm open to suggestions. Thanks
  12. Product:             STEP7 Professional V13 Reference:           FB Declaration Static: Data type TON is not allowed here Description: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi, I'm using Step7 Prof V13 SP1 upd7 & WinCC Adv V13 SP1 upd7.    In my project I'm using a 312CPU, Article No.: 6ES7 312-1AE14-0AB0, Version: V3.3 & TP1500 Comfort, Article No.:6AV2 124-0QC02-0AX0, Version:13.0.1.0   My Issue: I've taken previously used FB from my Global library and inserted it into my new Project. In this FB I've declared an IEC Timer (TON) in the static section of the FB. When I go to upload to the PLC after TIA carries out the compilation I get error message 'Data type TON is not allowed here'. I've tried creating a new FB to test and had same issue for CTU,CTD,TOF.   See attached pics This is really strange as it has always functioned before! Has anyone seen or heard of this issue before? I'd appreciate any help, Cheers.
  13. thesis project

Hello, For my thesis i'm using a beckhoff cx9020,a sunnyboy and a sunnyisland with rs485 communication protocol sma net. One of the things I need to do is to log everything from the sunny devices realtime. and here is where my problem starts. I am using rs485 to communicate with the devices via plc but I don't find any documention for what i need to request or send to get usefull data. does anyone here have an idea? 14. Data Historian Speed

I was just curious on which type of data historians are considered fast at retrieving historical data.  For example, if I wanted to trend a tag at a one second interval to review an event that took place a year ago and compare that to the same tag in real-time, what historian does this the fastest?
  15. Hi I have problem to find eeprom bin or hex file to eeprom message memory on XBT-A72101. I have new empty eeprom and programmer but i don't have firmware file and can't read old memory beacouse not working.  Could be somebody help me with this file. Best Regards. Michal.
  16. Can anyone advise if there are data structure #s associated with each of the data types in Logix?  Example if it is a Bool, I believe Logix advises it is a 32 bit number.  But is there an "under the hood" data type reference number for each Logix data type?  I.E.  if it is a Bool, that is a RA data type #1, if it is a DINT, it is a RA data type #2, etc.
  17. Hey all, I've reviewed a number of threads regarding converting one data type to another and I have something I'm working on that I'm stumped on and haven't found an answer for yet. Without getting into the details, I need to get a DINT bit value from an entered decimal value. A user will enter in a whole number in an entry box and then it needs to get converted to the number of whatever bits that the DINT number holds. For instance: # Entered Variable Bit Value -----0------------------0 -----1------------------1 -----2------------------3 -----3------------------7 -----4-----------------15 etc... I'm looking for a fairly clean way to do this, with perhaps just two or three instruction blocks to handle it, if possible. I can provide a screenshot of the HMI and the logic (4 rungs) if necessary. Any suggestions or advice from the group would be greatly appreciated!
  18. Hi guys, I recently was asked to configure a computer to host an Factory Talk SE Client application. I was able to get everything working except the trends and the Alarm window, all I have is the cross hatch screen. at the bottom of the screen it is saying cause: Trend: CAB file missing on the server: http://hmi1/RsviewActiveXControlSetup/RSTXView2ocx.CAB. I have worked on this for a while and am stumped. All the other computers on the same domain network are working fine, so it leads me to believe my problem is with my installation on the new computer. Any suggestions or if you need more input please let me know. Thanks
  19. .cin file question.

I'm fairly new to the world of automation so please excuse me if get my terms mixed up. I think I know the answer to this but its not quite clear in the manuals. I'm on a project that has about 9 CJ2H PLCs that we are doing a re-commisioning job. In each of the PLC files we have backup files and the program files. Some of the PLCs have .cin files for CX Integrator and some don't. Some of the files have routing tables as well. We are wondering if we are supposed to have a .cin file for each PLC and that this a must have file in order for the PLC to comunicate with other devices in the network? If each network is supposed to have one this means that we were not given those files from the original owners and then we need to create new ones. I'm thinking that its not a big deal and pretty easy to setup the network configuration. Anyone out there have any experience? Thanks
  20. I'm trying to use CX-Server to pull data from my Omron CJ2H PLC directly into Excel. I'm able to pull a single element into excel, but when I try to pull more than one element, I get a huge strand of numbers. Is there a way that I can set up a single point in DDE Manager that'll hold all the elements that I need, then in excel have a formula that will pull out specific memory elements. Specifically I'm trying to pull data from D7200-D7399, and put each element into a separate cell it in a chart that ranges from B3-K22 This is what the formula looks like when I copy a point into excel =CDMDDE|'C:\Users\... ....cdm'!'\New Point 1' I didnt know if I could put something at the end of each string to call out specific elements, but I keep getting "#BadPoint" =CDMDDE|'C:\Users\... ....cdm'!'\New Point 1'!'D7200' =CDMDDE|'C:\Users\... ....cdm'!'\New Point 1'!'D7201' ... =CDMDDE|'C:\Users\... ....cdm'!'\New Point 1'!'D7399' Any help would be great
  21. Hello! I am creating a project with Logix Designer, version 24. In the project I am using 1734-AENTR/B devices in etherner/IP-bus. I find out that there is only old versions of Logix Designer, only Major version 3 and 4 but the device that I have is the version 5. So I downloaded this EDS-file from Rockwell support-pages and installed it with EDS HW tool. After this, I can not choose this device 1734-AENTR/B with Major version 5. How to get this installed version to the project? After installation I have reboot my programming device and there is not RS Linx running in my computer.
  22. Hi friends, I am a little new to WinCC. I am using a WinCC RT Advanced license within TIA portal v13.1 I need a little help in my current project as described below. I am attempting to create a faceplate of a solenoid valve,, The "Valve" is a user-defined data-type with the following 4 elements 1. Cmd - or command. - Bool 2. Cls_Fb - or Closed -Feedback -Bool. 3. Aut - or Automatic Mode -Bool 4. FTC - Fails to close -Bool. I tried the following procedure as described in TIA portal help.. Method -1 1. I created a User-defined data type called Valve comprising of the above 4 bool elements. 2. In the graphics I made a image of solenod valve with one rectangle (solenoid) and one polygon for valve body. 3. Under the Faceplate Properties (See figure attached) I inserted a property ang gave it the data-type Valve as above. However, when I drag a property from the 'Contained objects list' to the interface side, it is not getting substituted. such as the Rectangle_1 's background color I try to associate with the interface property Valve.Cmd. It does not get assigned when dragged. Since this does not work I tried another approach, Method -2 I attempted to declare a variable tag of UDT type 'valve' in the faceplate's tab Tags. I found that it is not possible to declare a local variable of User-defined types here. Please guide me how to proceed. Thanks for looking in and best wishes for your success. Regards, Raj S. Iyer
  23. Hi friends, Can anybody tell me when to use a local-Static variable and when to use a Local Temp variable whilst creating a Function-Block in S7 -1500 using TIA portal. Thanks for looking in. Best wishes.
  24. Hey All, I am trying to do some data storing on a PanelView+ and the built in data logging doesn't quite fit my needs. I was looking into the possibility of creating my own ActiveX control for doing this. Is it possible to create custom ActiveX controls for Factory Talk? If so, are there any tutorials for doing so you recommend? Also, are there any sites that have custom ActiveX controls to download? I realize this may not be the easiest thing to do, but if I could create my own I could use it for various machines and would make things a lot simpler in the long run. Thanks
